Kissell Event featuring Representative Artur Davis

This is somewhat of a public service announcement for the Kissell campaign, so please forgive me. I was very excited to see national interest in the Kissell campaign on the rise after the recent $1.22 gas event. Now, that the interest is picking up we can probably expect a few more events like this.

On Friday Aug. 25th Congressman Artur Davis of Alabama will be in Charlotte to speak and support the Kissell for Congress Campaign. Congressman Davis is a rising star on the National level. He is an influential member of the Congressional Black Caucus, is Vice-Chair of the DCCC, and serves on the House banking committee. The event is free and open to the public. It will start at 6pm and be at Veterans Park, located at 2136 Central Avenue. For more information please contact Kissell for Congress at 1-877-454-7735.

More below the fold...

Congressman Davis graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard in 1990 and Cum Laude from Harvard Law School before he returned to Alabama to serve as an intern at the Southern Poverty Law Center, to work as a civil rights attorney and then an assistant United States Attorney. From Wikipedia:

Despite his status as a junior member of the minority party, Congressman Davis has emerged as a leader on issues related to housing, education, and health care. As a freshman, he led the successful fight to reverse funding cuts for minority land grant colleges including Tuskegee University and Alabama. As a second term member, Congressman Davis won a floor fight to restore funding to the HOPE VI program for renovating public housing; he persuaded over sixty Republicans to vote with Democrats to save HOPE VI. In 2005, the congressman was the lead Democratic sponsor of a bill establishing a national cord blood bank, which will widen the availability of blood transfusions for thousands of patients who suffer from diseases such as sickle cell anemia and diabetes.

I plan to attend this and I plan to take my mother and several friends. This is exciting. Not only do I want to support Larry Kissell, but I sincerely want to hear Artur Davis. He's a centrist, but leans left and that's right up my alley.

I guess those of us supporting Larry Kissell can stop feeling like red-headed step children. Now, if we can only get John Edwards to jump on this bandwagon........

This just shows you what hard work

and determination can do. National spotlight is starting to shine and I just bet it gets a bit brighter before November.
