January BlueNC Presidential Straw Poll

I'm interested in seeing which candidate is second to Edwards in BlueNC support. There's a poll below; it's pretty simple. I'm using a pretty standard Dem Candidate list; yes, I'm aware that some people would disagree with Gore being on it and Kerry being off it (for example), but I don't think Kerry would be getting that many votes here.

Update: Here's a new, better poll - the old one was horrible.

To the pollbooth!

In honor of his day next Monday, let me remind you: MLK, Jr. was a Republican!

You might remember a story from Maryland last year, about Martin Luther King, Jr., a.k.a. one of the greatest leaders of the 20th Century and a known champion of social equality, being claimed by the GOP as a Republican in an advertisment. Yes, it's absurd:

That is why the ad was "a joke," said Christopher Arps, a former spokesman for Rice and the association [that ran the ad that claimed MLK as a Republican]. "Anyone with any sense knows that most black people were Republican at one time. But it's a far stretch to think that in the '60s Martin Luther King was a Republican."

Well, the Mecklenburg County GOP is repeating this absurdity:

It should come as no surprise that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican. In that era, almost all black Americans were Republicans. Why? From its founding in 1854 as the anti-slavery party until today, the Republican Party has championed freedom and civil rights for blacks. And as one pundit so succinctly stated, the Democrat Party is as it always has been, the party of the four S's: Slavery, Secession, Segregation and now Socialism.

Richard Moore is Raising Money, So Who Else Out There Is?

I just got my invite to Richard Moore's fundraiser in Charlotte on December 4th, and it looks like this event is going to get him $200-300K. So I want to know: who have you seen raising money, and how much does it look like they're bringing in? And I guess it's time to start asking the following question: which Democrats are you supporting in 2008? Should the Committee to Elect Sam Spencer pay for me to go to this event, or should I save my money?

Kissell Goes Into Recount 339 Votes Down; Provisional Vote Phase Essentially Over

Crossposted at Kos.- Sam

Today netroots hero Larry Kissell asked for a recount. When I left the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections at 10:00 pm EST, Larry was down 339 votes district wide, so that's the all-but-final pre-recount number.

Many people have asked how they can help. This is a link to the recount fund. Or help Larry pay off his $45,000 in campaign debt (that's more than a teacher in Biscoe makes in a year). If you can't contribute, I'm sure Larry would simply ask for your prayers. If that's not personal enough for you, you can send your support by calling 1-877- 4 KISSELL (1-877-454-7735).

NOW FRONT PAGED ON DAILY KOS: NC-08: New Poll and vlog for Kissell

I have wanted to front page this, but it is breaking the margins.

First, the new RT Strategies Poll. Let's get that out of the way first:

NC-08
Robin Hayes 44 (44)
Larry Kissell 48 (51) ... D+4
Conducted: Oct. 8-10
MoE +/- 2.9-3.1

Larry is still leading Robin Hayes OUTSIDE the margin of error in a race that according to Cook and others is still "Likely Republican." Why is it still "Likely Republican?" The short answer is "Money, honey."  Larry ended the last fundraising period with $35.33 cash on hand ... and that's why Larry needs you to give your $35.33 to help him take back the 8th District.

Give Larry Kissell your $88.94!

Larry Kissell has had a banner week. At the end of last week, Larry was breathing down Robin's neck - now there's the Constituency Dynamics Poll. Let's get that out of the way first:

NC-08
Robin Hayes 44
Larry Kissell 51 ... D+7
Conducted: Oct. 8-10
MoE +/- 2.9-3.1

Larry is leading Robin Hayes OUTSIDE the margin of error in a race that according to Cook and others is still "Likely Republican." Why is it still "Likely Republican?" The short answer is "Money, honey."  Larry ended last quarter with $88.94 cash on hand ... and that's why Larry needs you to give your $88.94 to help him take back the 8th District.
