Pat McCrory: breaking his campaign promises in record time

Although Pat McCrory campaigned as a "political outsider" who would root out special interests and reject "business as usual," the truth is this: before he even took office, McCrory had broken his campaign promises and surrounded himself with veterans of the good ole boy network.

Progress North Carolina has set up a special website to catalogue the proof of this. Please share our new accountability website graphics with others so people understand: we need to watch this guy closely. See the website here. Or you can review its contents after the jump.

Within days of winning the election, Pat McCrory broke his campaign promise to keep special interests out of state government. He has surrounded himself with veterans of the good ole boy network and plunged headlong into conflicts of interest unbecoming of our state’s highest office.

Fiscal Cliff Action in Raleigh on Monday, Dec. 31st at 2 PM

The fiscal cliff negotiations are coming down to the wire in Washington, D.C. – which means our country faces a choice of protecting working families and the middle class, or going over the "cliff" in order to save tax breaks for the very wealthy. On Monday, Congress will likely be voting on several proposals to protect middle class families – which means now is the time for us to make our voices heard in public and in the media.

Please join us on Monday, December 31 at 2 PM in Raleigh near the Fayetteville Street New Year's Eve acorn drop site.
We will be gathering to urge Congress to "not drop the ball on the middle class" in order to protect tax breaks for the wealthy. This will be a public media event (so turnout will be important). It will also be an opportunity to make calls to Congress and to educate the public about the choices facing our country.

"Let them eat cake! Or at least take the stairs..."

Virginia Foxx suffered a serious Marie Antoinette moment and was caught by Washington's insider The Hill and busted for it. Apparently, she doesn't like anyone but the anointed riding her elevator with her. From The Hill:

"The lawmaker, who was recently elected to a House GOP leadership post, asked for whom the pair worked. Then she turned to the female staffer, who had no clue she was on board what was soon to be the elevator ride of doom. Foxx said to the staffer, “This is a ‘members-only’ elevator; can you read?” She then demanded the staffer’s name before the elevator stopped after going just one more floor up. “Get out here,” Foxx supposedly commanded.

F NC indeed!

It looks like Pat McCrory has a brand new pet C-4 foundation that will rake in big bucks from his inauguration. This new "educational" non-profit is called The Foundation for North Carolina, which means it has a very appropriate acronym of "F NC!".

A name like that begs the question.... what should its slogan be? :)

Say NO to naming a federal building after Jesse Helms

PLEASE JOIN PROGRESS NORTH CAROLINA IN TELLING CONGRESS: DO NOT REWARD HATE SPEECH & INTOLERANCE. Please sign our petition rejecting a bill recently introduced by Congresswoman Renee Ellmers that seeks to name a federal building in Raleigh after Jesse Helms.

As anyone who lived in North Carolina before 2000 knows, for decades Jesse Helms embarassed our state by standing for antiquated, racist, outdated political views. He fought against equal rights, civil rights and women's rights while absolutely villifying gay Americans with his obsessive hompohobia. He opposed a federal holiday for Martin Luther King, Jr. and once accused kids who got free lunches of double dipping in the welfare system and suggested their food stamps be cut to adjust. Tell your Senators and U.S. House Reps what $2k means to you:

President Obama has asked the people of America to “call your members of Congress, write them an email, post it on their Facebook walls” and tweet about middle-class tax cuts using the hashtag “#My2k.”

Please tell your Senators and U.S. House Rep what you'd have to give up should your taxes go up by about $2k a year.

A great tool for anyone to use to get out the early vote that remains:

Early Voting has begun in North Carolina – and that means every day is election day! That's why we’ve launched a new online tool that connects you with your Facebook friends who have not voted yet – and then helps you call them to ask them to vote early. You can also use it to call people you do not know who are progressive voters. Anyone can use this tool and it's free -- so if you've been working on your own or with others to get out the vote, feel free to use it and invite others to do the same.
