Union County will hold in-person high school graduation

When your final lesson is to defy the Governor:

Union County has announced it is holding in-person, traditional graduation ceremonies with social distancing measures in place. The district had an emergency board of education meeting Thursday evening to discuss the graduation plans.

The Union County Public Schools Board decided in a 5-4 vote to hold the ceremonies in an outdoor stadium where students would maintain social distancing.

Right, just like the Althamahaw race fans practiced social distancing. It won't do a damn bit of good for the students to space themselves out if their idiot parents are packed together in the stands. Shouldn't be a problem, I think Atrium Health in Monroe still has 3-4 ICU beds available...

Say their names

victims of Charleston massacre

On Monday evening, I spoke at a vigil for the nine victims of the massacre at Mother Emanuel A.M.E. It was a wonderful experience with clergy from many different local churches, representatives from the police department, and the mayor of Monroe. I can still hear the beautiful voice of Joyce Myers as she sang "Amazing Grace." She has a richness to her voice that allows you to feel the song as well as hear it.

Confederate flags removed from base of memorial in Union County

Union County, NC Confederate Flag

Tuesday afternoon officials in Union County removed multiple Confederate flags from the base of the Civil War Memorial on the grounds of the historic Union County Courthouse. The flags were taken away after Union County Democratic Party Chair Nancy Rorie emailed county officials requesting that the flags be removed.

In her email she wrote:

How NCDP Chair Randy Voller Denied Union County Dems the right to vote in the Democratic Party political process

Imagine being accused and punished for something, but your accusers never clarify their charges. Ever. They just accuse you of committing "irregularities," without offering proof of any kind or specifying their charges in any way. This is exactly what happened to the Union County Democratic Party when NCDP Chair Randy Voller coordinated with then (2011 - 2013) UCDP 1st Vice Chair Diane Little, to abruptly end our 2013 County Convention, denying nearly 100 Democrats who were gathered the right to vote for UCDP officers and delegates to the 8th and 9th District Conventions.

Dem ground game is on fire

UCDP rally

It is crunch time folks. I don't know what your local Democratic Party is doing, but here in Union County we are knocking on doors, sending personal notes to voters, and calling potential voters at a pace that beats efforts made in past presidential election years. We know that our chances are slim with voter registration numbers looking the way they do, but we are fighting to push that needle just a little more in our favor.

Union Co. Kissell Supporter Organizes Big Trip to D.C.

Earlier this morning a bus took off from Union County, NC carrying a large group of 8th District Larry Kissell supporters. The trip was organized by Nancy Rorie, President of Democratic Women of Union County. I sure wish I was on that bus.

The group includes volunteers, fundraisers, local party officials, reporters and some Kissell family members. Nancy started work immediately after the election to put this trip together. She's known for making things happen here in Union County, so it was a foregone conclusion that the trip would be a success.
