Discussion of Charlotte's Nondiscrimination Ordinance Pulled from Agenda

The LGBT community won yet another battle in the war for equal rights today when Charlotte Mayor, Jennifer Roberts, pulled a discussion of the impact of HB2 from the agenda for tonight's Charlotte City Council meeting.

This doesn't mean there won't be other attempts to repeal the ordinance, which after the passage of HB2 actually no longer exists since state law supersedes the ordinance.

Job well done, Mecklenburg Co. Democratic Party

With all of the missteps of NCDP Chair Randy Voller and the attention on infighting within the North Carolina Democratic Party, it should not go unnoticed when a county party does something well. On Saturday voting members of Senate District 37 met to select Senator Dan Clodfelter's replacement in the NC Senate and voting members of the SEC and CEC from the Mecklenburg County Democratic Party met to select a new third vice chair of the party. I kept waiting for typical Democratic Party nastiness to rear its ugly head, but party chair Robin Bradford and the rest of the leadership team did a very good job of running an orderly meeting and a transparent selection process.

Kissell, Watt & Davis Give us Reason to Hope

Last night I attended a gathering for Larry Kissell at Veteran's Park in Charlotte. Congressman Mel Watt, NC-12 and Congressman Artur Davis of Alabama spoke to rally the group of Kissell supporters, neighborhood leaders, local elected Democrats and party officials. I figure there's nothing new either of them can tell me about Larry. I've read everything there is to read about him. Hell, I've written a lot of it.

So, for me, it wasn't what they said about Larry. It was the warmth with which they embraced Larry in his bid to represent North Carolina's 8th.
