Bye Bye, Liddy: The End of an Era - Open Thread

From MSNBC Firstread:

*** End of another era? Down the ballot in North Carolina, the Democratic hit that Elizabeth Dole spent just 20 days in the Tar Heel State in 2005 and 13 days there in 2006 might very well have been the final nail in her coffin in her race against Dem challenger Kay Hagan. Could the end of the Bush era also bring us the end of the Dole era? There has been a Dole in the Senate for nearly 50 straight years -- and either a Bush or a Dole on the national ticket going back to '72. Will Liddy Dole's potential defeat signal the true end of the two most powerful Republican families of the last 50 years?

Ben Smith at Politico summarizes today with two pictures. It's a huge ouch for McCain. No Dukakis tank moment for Obama. McCain looks like he's tooling around with Thurston Howell III, but it's actually a very tan Daddy Bush wearing a turtleneck in July.

Obama looks presidential and McCain...well...McCain looks like a tool.

Earlier I pledged to be part of the movement to counter the right's attempt to demonize Michelle Obama the way they did Hillary Clinton. You can imagine what my inbox looks like as alert after alert fills the box. Most of it is positive and I've read some of the most wonderful posts about Michelle Obama. I'll cover some of those later today.

Here's something that caught my eye from the LA Times.

I bet we have a lot of bloggers out canvassing, putting up signs, making phone calls and standing the last day of early voting at the polls. Last night sounds like it was a rousing success. I wish I could have been there.

You Tube is down, so I'm not able to get anymore of the videos loaded. I'll keep trying and will move the diaries back to the front page to give our speakers some face time.

Here's a nice clean open thread.

Monday Morning Open Thread - 4/28

Good Morning! I know we're all tired. Driving back in the rain was awful last night. It was raining so hard I couldn't see the lane markers and the trucks were barreling around us even in the driving rain, but Katie was chatting about all the really interesting people she'd met and I was still excited about seeing everyone, so the time flew by.

I'll have video and pictures up later of the blogger bash.

What's on your mind?
