#NCPol "..There were no compelling reasons to fire Staton, other than the longstanding and petty feud Harry Smith has had with the chancellor because he wouldn’t agree to a sweetheart real estate deal for Smith."
It's not like this was a "secret" feud, we've known about it for some time now. And yet, Republicans on the Board have kept him in that (unearned and clearly ill-advised) position of power in spite of that massive conflict of interest. And of course Republicans in the General Assembly have stood by and watched while their experiment in partisan manipulation has blown up the laboratory. Big, stinking mess.
Republicans just advanced the judicial nomination of 36 year-old Allison Jones Rushing for the 4th Circuit (NC). She has practiced law for just 9 years, only tried 4 cases to verdict or judgment in her career (none as lead counsel), and isn’t even a member of the NC bar.

That won't stop Burr & Tillis from gushing about her "long and distinguished career," or some such nonsense.
Everybody's talking except the one who needs to talk:
A lot was said on the first day of evidence hearing in Raleigh. This all will decide the fate of the 9th Congressional District race #NC09#ncpol. However, it's what one man decided not to say that left a frenzy at the end of day one. @NCSBEhttps://t.co/AuyseXEhFR
Mark Harris tells the AP he recruited McCrae Dowless because he produced election results in Bladen County and other Republicans vouched for him. Harris says a background check by his political consultants missed Dowless' felony convictions #NC09#ncpolhttps://t.co/2IEBhWNMCl
Gov's office confirms DMV move vote has been taken off agenda for Tuesday's Council of State meeting. Says they heard concerns and "requested that the item be taken off the Council of State agenda to give more time to discuss its impact." #ncga#ncpol#wral#Ncdmv
The controversy surrounding the North Carolina 9th Congressional district will move into a Wake County courtroom on Tuesday. #ncpolhttps://t.co/JPcump7U0a
This will be interesting, to say the least. Best thing for the court to do is punt, though, because the House is not about to seat Harris until more is known.
Overnight, workers removed the base and tablets from the Confederate Monument site. I am confident this is the right decision for our community – one that will promote public safety, enable us to begin the healing process and renew our focus on our great mission.
People will be saying nice things and some not-so-nice things about her in the days ahead, but her time leading UNC-CH has to have been a near-constant nightmare. Thank you.
