Innovation over Misinformation: Trusting in Science to Combat COVID-19

Over the last seven months, we have seen an alarming amount of misinformation spread online and worst by our elected officials as we battle with the coronavirus pandemic. Online, we see conspiracy videos like Plandemic. The original post received millions of views and was shared over 140,000 times. In total, it is estimated that the video through various outlets and reposts received over eight million views. The Plandemic is a misleading short film full of schemes about people profiting from the virus and misinformation about how individuals can protect themselves.

Don’t get distracted

Some are saying North Carolinians are now left with an unenviable choice in the US Senate. We can vote for a guy who texted with a woman (not his wife) in California. Or we can vote for a guy who stood by silently while 200,000 people died in the pandemic for no good reason. It's a no brainer.

Cal says he's not dropping out of the race for US Senate, and he shouldn't. He made a mistake and he apologized. I'm willing to drop it. Because when it comes to decency and morality, I'll take a little texting over accessory to mass murder any day.

Letter from the Frontlines: Please Listen to Experts and Wear Your Mask!

The COVID-19 pandemic is far from over, especially in North Carolina, and I have seen the devastation firsthand. I am a proud nurse with the honor of serving patients in North Carolina. Throughout the past few months, nurses and healthcare providers across the state have been recognized for the work we are doing on the frontlines. I am grateful for the outpouring of love and support I have received personally and from so many who have donated to my hospital.

NC will likely wash its hands of Thom Tillis in November

tillistwoface.jpg

WaPo rates NC the "swingiest" of swing states:

Former state senator and Iraq and Afghanistan war veteran Cal Cunningham is the Democrats’ nominee (despite Republican interference to boost another candidate). In the first three months of this year, he doubled Tillis’s fundraising hauls. Tillis has tried at points to display some independence from Trump, pushing a bill to prevent the firing of Robert S. Mueller III and opposing Trump’s method of paying for the border wall. But he embraced the wall and during impeachment, he was all-in for the president.

We don't call him Two-Faced Tillis for nothing. He has never been exceptionally popular among Republicans, but that OpEd he wrote had them sharpening the long knives. Let's see what Thommy said back then:

US Senate: Which way are you leaning?

We ran this poll last week for 48 hours. A total of 122 people voted, mostly for Cunningham.

I don't think these kinds of polls mean much, except possibly showing which candidate can stir up an online flurry on relatively short notice. This sort of tactical effort could represent a broader campaign capability ... or maybe not. It is what it is.

My apologies to candidates not listed. I was working from top-of-mind and I should have included three others.

Closing Argument: The Choice for Veterans and Military Families

BlueNC Friends,

After dozens of events across North Carolina since the DNC, our Veterans for Obama group has written a concluding piece about why we think the choice on election day is clear: President Obama has been a strong Commander-in-Chief, who believes that responsibly ending war means honoring those who have been called upon to serve in it.

Thank You

Dear Friends,

After giving a serious and thorough look at a race for the U.S. Senate, I have decided not to seek office at this time. This has been a very difficult decision, but I’m sure there will be another day and there are many other ways to serve.

I am deeply committed to public service and have a passion for working on the serious issues facing our State and country. A campaign for the Senate is about winning and working to be a part of the answer. As a candidate, I have to look supporters in the eye and show them how we win – and what we do when we get there. After a very careful look, I’ve concluded that this is the wrong race at the wrong time for me and my family.
