Next GOP target: The little brown people

And of course my Sheriff was front and center advising them what to do:

Alamance Sheriff Terry Johnson says his county’s participation in the federal 287(g) program has helped his deputies arrest and arrange for the deportation of nearly 1,800 illegal immigrants over the past five years. “We deal with criminals who happen to be illegal aliens,” Johnson said.

What he didn't say, probably because no public comments were allowed, which is also probably why there's no mention of it in this news story (it still should have been referenced): The Sheriff and his office have been under investigation by the US DOJ for more than a year for racial profiling:

The standoff between the County and the DOJ has been over the issue of DOJ interviews of Alamance County Sheriff's personnel being conducted in the presence of the County Attorney.

The Justice Department filed a lawsuit Thursday June 23 against the Alamance County Sheriff's Office (ACSO), Alamance County and Alamance County Sheriff Terry Johnson seeking a judicial declaration that DOJ department attorneys may interview particular ACSO personnel outside the presence of ACSO's counsel.

The DOJ press release says, the Department of Justice is currently investigating allegations that ACSO, Alamance County and Sheriff Terry Johnson have engaged in discriminatory policing and unconstitutional searches and seizures. In the complaint, the department alleges that numerous current and former ACSO personnel are fearful that if they cooperate with the United States' investigation, they may be subject to retaliation.

And here's another little jewel that may get turned into legislation come springtime:

They could also consider tightening laws regarding reporting of citizenship status for schoolchildren.

East Germany much? Jesus. Yeah, that's exactly what we need. Parents keeping their kids out of school because they're afraid the whole family will get rounded up. Sheesh.
