A truly amazing speech by the mayor of Salt Lake City.

Blind faith in bad leaders is not patriotism.

A patriot does not tell people who are intensely concerned about their country to just sit down and be quiet; to refrain from speaking out in the name of politeness or for the sake of being a good host; to show slavish, blind obedience and deference to a dishonest, war-mongering, human-rights-violating president.

That is not a patriot. Rather, that person is a sycophant. That person is a member of a frightening culture of obedience - a culture where falling in line with authority is more important than choosing what is right, even if it is not easy, safe, or popular. And, I suspect, that person is afraid - afraid we are right, afraid of the truth (even to the point of denying it), afraid he or she has put in with an oppressive, inhumane, regime that does not respect the laws and traditions of our country, and that history will rank as the worst presidency our nation has ever had to endure.

Imagine what would happen if every mayor of every city spoke with this kind of clarity and conviction.

Or better yet ...

Imagine if we had a few Republicans - or even one - who would actually speak this truth.

You have to read this too.

Chris Fitzsimon is getting stronger and clearer all the time. He nails wacko talking points today in a smart listing of "Four Myths."

In the next few months airwaves and mailboxes will be filled with all sorts of claims about state policy that stretch the truth into unrecognizable shapes or simply misrepresent what happened in the General Assembly in the last two years.

As a public service, the Fitzsimon File will continue to try to correct the record as the campaigns continue. Today, four of the most prominent myths that you will hear repeatedly over the next few months that have little or nothing to do with reality.

Oooo...fixing dinner

put that on the list of things to read after dinner.

Those (almost) daily emails started showing up in my campaign email. He is doing some great work over there.

Amazing times a bunch

I've been having an inner struggle this year over how to approach the whole impeachment thing. I've engaged folks on kos recently about it and I'm still wondering whether pushing it before the election is wise. A couple of things caught my mind today that may be be pushing me towards closure on this. And a final observation brings me back.

The first was a bizarre rant by Sean Hannity about our duty to rise to the call for battle or something.

"This is the moment to say that there are things in life worth fighting and dying for and one of them is making sure Nancy Pelosi doesn't become the speaker."

The second was the Mayor's speech. If that's common language then the word impeachment isn't so over the top.

Then again, with so many Republicans scrambllng to eat their own, why mess up a god thing by provoking a reactionary response from that 10% that matter?

See? I still can't decide.

oops

'good' thing. maybe it's freudian or something.

Very Freudian

I've been sporting an Impeach Bush bumpersticker for four years, so I'm not an objective observer. That said, I don't think it's something to be focused on right now. First win the House. Then worry about governing. Then worry about cleaning up George's stinky messes. Then worry about George.

Very Brokeback Mountain Repub thought?

Don't worry! First win and than take your time to measure
the rope to hang them all at the treason Trials.

Good plan if Dems don't wimp on step #4

If Congress doesn't eventually hold hearings on ALL the abuse of Executive powers and then provide remedies, we'll be left a legacy that will tear at the Republic.

My concern is the Dems will accept steps 1-3 and leave #4 alone because of "petty" political expediency. Very little I've seen of the "leadership" of safe "rank-n-file" Dems (like Price) bolsters my confidence.
