Wow.

Okay, so, it's over. And, Barack Obama is our nominee for President. Just stop for a second. Barack Obama is our nominee for President of the United States. Folks, it's a new day. For awhile I was so anti-Obama, not just pro-Edwards but actively anti-Obama. Then, I seriously leaned towards Hillary Clinton. But, those days are gone.

Hey, Barack Obama is our nominee, did I mention that? Wow. Have you really taken a second to stop and think about what that means? This is a new era folks, we have to get Barack Obama elected because it will end an era in the United States and we can begin a new one.

Wow.

So, that's it. Time for a new era.

Don't believe it until it's official.

The AP really shouldn't do that.

First, if they aren't going to name names, we have no way of verifying the veracity of the statement which makes it conjecture. You cannot count a commitment until it's public.

Second, this could affect voter turnout in both primaries today.

I won't believe it until the voting is over and the superdelegates have publicly committed. Anything less than that merely feeds into perception of media bias and influence.

Me, too, Robert P.

And then, after my necessary "mourning JRE" time, my son told me he had donated to Obama's campaign. I was shocked. But, at my boy's request, I decided to open up my ears and start listening and reading and watching. I truly liked what I found.

Very exciting times!!!

The lady can say what she wants...

...you can't dispute simple math.

Hillary will do what it takes

I don't know what she's got up her sleeve but it's pretty clear that Hillary might be willing to do just about anything to get the nomination especially if Obama somehow becomes (in my opinion) more damaged goods between now and the convention.

Its Delegate Math

and not that simple.
Congrats to Obama, and I will support him wholeheartedly.
But as a life-long Democrat I want to see 'superdelegates' go the way of their legacy, 'political bosses,' and become extict after this election.
I don't want to see a candidate lose while winning on the way out.
I don't want to see a candidate lose after getting more votes.
Elected officials get to make more important votes in that capacity, as elected officials; all Democrats should be equal otherwise.
Certain Democrats should not be treated as more important than the average voter greeted at the poll.
I don't want to see someone being courted because their vote means more than ours, thats unfair and undemocratic; at that point why would regular folk vote unless they have a few hundred or thousand who will vote your way?
So...
Go Obama (your an inspiration)!

GO Superdelegates (you don't belong in a Democracy, and I am ashamed)

I'm not crazy about the supers either.

But I'm not ashamed of them. Everyone got to vote, and despite attempts, no rules were changed midstream.

I think we have a strong party, a strong nominee, and we're headed for victory in November.

Now get your boots on the ground and start canvassing, because this thing is just starting, and we've got a Governor, a Senator, several Congresscritters, and other various positions to elect.

Go. I mean it! Find your county chair and put your name in the pool for canvassing. They're going to need you. Or -- join the crew.

Deal

no rules were changed midstream.

Did you miss the deal on the MI and FL votes?

No I didn't miss it.

I paid close attention. Closer attention that you might expect. It was a negotiation. The bylaws of the party were followed. No rules were changed. Snark all you want to - we're the party of the people, which means that sometimes, most times, even, we have to compromise in order to move forward, and that's just what we did.

I'd rather be that then an all or nothing dinosaur of a party.

This takes me back to the JJ dinner..

When I said that the perfect cabinet position for Hillary would be "Secretary of Pantsuits"

Exciting. Historic.

I'm proud to be a Democrat today.

I flirted with Bill Richardson back in '07, but his candidacy fizzled as Barack Obama's was finding its feet.

I've been an Obama guy all year, watching the grassroots power of his campaign, watching him deftly and gracefully handle himself in the most difficult of crucibles.

Congratulations, America. You moved the country forward.

Yeah!

I'm proud to be a Democrat most days, Gordon - but this makes me especially proud.

Richardson...

I was leaning to Richardson for a while back in the early days of this as well.
Still think he's a very good option for Obama's VP slot. At least, in my view, the best option out of all the former contenders.

who I am rooting for

I think Richardson would be a great VP candidate.

"jump in where you can and hang on"
Briscoe Darling to Sheriff Andy

Richardson is about a exciting as John Kerry....ick

That man is so boring to listen to. He can't keep my attention long enough for me to figure out what he believes or where he stands. All I know about him....and I do know this for a fact....is that he was (and still is) a Governor, by Goddess.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Vote Democratic! The ass you save may be your own.

Somebody diaried a Chris Dodd for VP

post at the big orange. Then there's a post that says Obama just put together a three person VP search committee that includes Caroline Kennedy. I have no VP preferences ... I just hope a gracious concession is soon forthcoming from Senator Clinton.

Yes, I heard that yesterday.

It was good and sounded heartfelt and sincere. Maybe she wanted to give her supporters time to deal with the reality. For them, I think it needs to come soon, though.

Edited to add: Per kossack ari; Clinton has sent an email to supporters indicating that she'll offer Senator Obama her congratulations on winning the nomination this Saturday. Good on her.

But the question is..

Did he flirt back, Gordon? ;)

I flirted with Bill Richardson back in '07

The headline is exciting

I'd like to see the announcements wait until the voting is finally over. We've waited this long, for crying out loud. A few more hours wouldn't hurt.

It ain't over...

I'm tired of screaming, "let's count the votes." Calling a race before people can vote? Stealing away delegates? I don't know anymore...

So I'll just go to my primary watch party with my peeps and enjoy the night.

"Stealing away delegates"?

C'mon. He'll have the needed number before MT and SD are even called. People see the writing on the wall and they want this party unified.

Stealing delegates?

I agree with you about not calling the races before they're over. I've always hated that. I hate when the polls close and 30 seconds later they're calling the winner. I suppose watching Recount a couple of times this week has made me skittish over that.

But stealing away delegates? Where do you get that?

(And Capt., I'm sure this is a weird night for you. I'm proud of all the work you've done and will do.)

Technically,

the voters pick the delegates. I've no idea what the formula is, and there are more pledged delegates than there are supers. You know, technically, in the general election for President, you're telling the electors from your state what to do (I think.) Sam can correct me if I'm wrong.

Ever since I can remember, primaries have been about delegates. Obama did win more pledged delegates than Clinton did. That is basic math. The supers -- well, they're part of the rules. I don't like those particular rules because they have a bit of the smoke filled room about them. Of course, if you bring that up to a Democrat over the age of 50 they regale you with stories of George McGovern. As if I don't remember that, either. ::eyeroll::

I'd rather see this on a straight delegate system, without the supers involved to, and I've been an Obama girl since Edwards dropped out. The delegates go to conventions, and at the convention is where the actual vote takes place. That's why you'll hear both McCain and Obama called the "presumptive" nominee of their respective parties. (You probably know all of this, don't you.)

So until those delegates actually vote, we will not have an official nominee, just a presumptive one, because while there are a lot of things that are relative these days, math is not one of them.

Go Barack I oppose mandates too

I have never seen HC position on health care as preferable. Mandates are tellling folks to spend money for a status symbol. And do nothing to make healthcare accessible, less chaotic,
