Why I don't give a Rat's Fanny what Matt Stoller Has to Say

Well, well, well. It appears that Dr. Frank Lives has brought the views of Mr. Pure Progressive here to BlueNC. Whoop de fucking doo.

I don't give a rat's ass what Matt Stoller has to say about any issue. Do you want to know why?

Too bad. I'm going to tell you why.

Matt Stoller was the guest speaker at a blogger meetup that the NCDP put together in January of this year. We were all pretty excited about the gathering. It was a chance to talk about the impact we, as part of the new media, could have on political discussions here in North Carolina.

It was held at Democratic Party headquarters in Raleigh.

It was invitation only.

There was assigned seating.

Matt sat at the head of the table with Jerry Meek, James and a few other dignitaries.

Schorr Johnson was the lone NCDP official at the far end of the table.

Do you want to know where the three women and the lone African American bloggers were sitting?

In the back of the room.

Pam Spaulding, Leslie Bland and I were relegated to the far end of the table while all(actually, most) of the white males sat near the front with Matt and the other dignitaries.

Did Matt even notice that the women and the lone minority didn't rate sitting near the head of the table?

Nope. He didn't say a word. Not.one.word.

He probably didn't even notice.

So, when Matt Stoller opens his mouth to preach progressive purity I have only one thing to say to him.

Hypocrite. Stupid freaking (sigh) hypocrite.

Blogger Conference: December the 15th in Greensboro?

I understand you're unhappy about something Dr. Frank Lives wrote, and you didn't link to it, so I don't really understand what you're talking about.

Jerry wanted to do a blogger's conference in Asheville during Vance-Aycock, but then it turned out that Gordon planned a blogger fest the week before, so we didn't organize it.

We should do a blogger strategy session before the year is out, even if it's just a few folks in a coffeeshop plotting against the forces of greed. Sorry I haven't made this happen sooner. How does December the 15th in Greensboro sound?

I'm not angry with what DFL wrote. I'm angry that Matt Stoller is a progressive purist, but would sit around with the women in the back of the room without saying anything......

Dec 15th?

Do you think this is a good idea, or do you think it's too late in the year? Should we schedule something for January instead?

Will folks help me organize it?

Of course you are not piss at DFDieds! He is up to old political establishment tricks to divide and run like hell as a prevert republican to a men's room pertending he didn't know anything about the alledge crime of Larry....Humor him....send him get well cards, tell him Davidson will not field a basketball team this year due to a new school policy that Gays and Alien Lizards from Mexico must play at least 50 % of their game time in pink tights....As a backbencher political bomb thrower, I rate him at -1 for missing the target 105% of the time.....Go Larry, you got bigger game to hunt...and his name is Flipper......

Oh come on John! Everybody is on to you as the Mole for your establishment law firm to promote and divide anybody that gets outside of the control box for your politicial masters.. Now that you have been smoke out for attacking Larry in a unsensible manner for your party establishment masters, maybe you should consider joining the Art Pope party where they really believe in party control since they are now meeting in a phone booth with their purge party soviet style politics. You keep this crap up, I will personally see that your resume makes it to the Blackwater group as a lawyer seeking employment in Baghdad as a loyal Christian Knight for Erik Prince...Now say 34 Hail Marys along with one Jesus jump over the Xmas Tree and go fight Nathan Tabor in a back alley to prove yourself as another winner for individualism against retarded racism...

i cant believe i am defending stoller

But your post is complete horsecrap.

I was there. I got a late invite from Jerry Meek. It was a very interesting discussion in which people sat in a rather small room in a u shape. Banished to the back of the room? Demondeac and I sat in the corner and had no trouble making ourselves heard. And if I recall, I had to speak past you to have matt hear me. Yep, you were closer to the "head" of the table, which after all did seat the guest speakers, than I was.

This is a laughable response.

Even if the situation you described had occurred, which it didn't, you expect an out of town guest speaker to come in and accuse the Chairman of the Democratic Party of North Carolina of sexism and racism based on a freaking seating chart!?!?

Good lord, what a ridiculous statement.

Was having the entire table turn and look at me when the question was asked about how to get blacks and the poor in NC into online activism.

I guess melanin accounts for "expertise."

Seriously, it's stuff like this - unthinking white male stuff - that sticks with people and creates deep fissures. A slight here. Being ignored there. A glance averted.

Jim Neal told me once that he can tell where a person is coming from about "gay" within three seconds of meeting them. Some people literally will not look him in the eye. How sad if that?

Just to add a note here...

I believe I ended up on the far side of Pam, so....

And, while I think Dr. Frank might have been a little over the top (who among us hasn't done that?), I think there is an underlying valid question. What does Larry believe about immigration?

I'm not a single issue voter, so if what DFL wrote is true, I'll be disappointed, but it won't ruin my impression of Larry.

just a partial list

I should have added human trafficking as well, but while I know that Democrat Ellie Kinnaird has taken a strong abolitionist stand, I don't know if any significant amount of Republicans joined her. Maybe some did.

Plus I think Brownback has paid lip service to the issue on a federal level.

I am not one of "those" women

I am married to a Republican man but it took me until age 38 to find my Mr. Right. I wanted a like-minded individual who would treat marriage as an equal partnership.

So, despite what you may think, there is no "man of the house" in our relationship. We are equal partners and we share in the decision making. On some things where he has more knowledge, I let him call the shots, and vice versa.

This is a different generation. Many Republican men are growing up and are quite different from their fathers, grandfathers, etc. You may very well have to ditch your stereotypes. By the way, my man is a minority.

I am no southern Baptist. I'm an Episcopalian!

I've had to dump a couple of guys from my past who felt that the woman is there to support the man and the woman can make no decisions. There was no use continuing the relationship with that kind of antiquated thinking. (sorry about my poor spelling).

I hope you will not say "All Republican men" this and "all Republican men" that. The under 45 crowd is a different animal.

I graduated from Meredith College in 1989 and that's not a place that encourages women to be wallflowers.

You may hate Republicans but I'm a conservative first and a Republican much later. You may not like that either, but I'm a decent person and I have many liberal friends.

I lived in downtown Raleigh for 14 years and was the first conservative many of my liberal neighbors had ever been friends with. I had a lesbian friend who told me, "I didn't know Republicans could be so nice." We didn't have to agree on political issues, but we had the same tastes in music, theater, movies, sports, etc. When I got dumped once, it was that lesbian friend who drove me to his house and supported me while I picked up my stuff. She was awesome!

We conservatives are decent folks who have the same goals in mind as you, we just disagree how to go about it. We both want the same thing, a better America.

One thing:

I'd like to know more about, just due to sheer ignorance, is transgendered people. I cannot imagine how hard that must be for someone to go through. The scorn, etc. It must be so hard for them!

If you are transgendered and want to tell me a little about your experiences, I'd like to hear about it. I honestly want to know more about what you've been through and any discrimination you've felt. It's an issue that makes me uncomfortable, so I'd like to change that by talking to people who are dealing with this.

When we can start to see each other as real people and not just political adversaries, then maybe we can be friends, even if we don't agree. That's a lesson I learned when I went through the Institute of Political Leadership in the Spring of 1992.

See you on the campaign trail. Maybe we can have a beer together.

Best,
Katy

Katy, I am sure you're very nice

but I think you already have a pretty firm opinion on transgendered folks:

http://katysconservativecorner.typepad.com/katy/homosexuals_and_transgendered/index.html

Not sure why you lament "the scorn" since your blog seems to do its share:

Here's the latest thing going among the "transgender" community, those who can't decide whether they want to be girls or boys, or is it women or men, or somewhere in between? (I can't wait for the hate mail I'll get on this one.)

Anyway, these Transgender freaks want their own public restrooms, but to make it more palatable, they are referring to them as "unisex".

Is Katy the Campaign consultant to a drunken Republican Judge?

Coy and Almond suck

...but they don't represent all Republicans. Remember, both political parties have those we are ashamed of. At least the GOP gets rid of theirs as soon as they find out and don't leave them in office.

I blogged these two people among others, and scolded them. Both belong in the graybar hotel with Jim Black and Michael Decker! Those guys are just crooks and not sex offenders!

I had conservative friends from the religious right that refused to believe it about Coy. But, I believe it and was among the first to call for his resignation from his office as a county commissioner. I was sorry to see that it took him quite a long time to get the message.

We aren't all bad, no matter what some of you want to think.

Sorry to burst your bubble

But Coy Privette still is a Cabarrus County Commissioner and he's not going anywhere. He refuses to leave until he can handpick his successor.
I should know, since I live in Cabarrus County and almost always attend the commissioner meetings.

Hi Katy...welcome

It's always good to have another perspective. What's your favorite flavor of pie so if I throw one it will be at least flavorful. :-)

Yep...we all have folks we're ashamed of but I don't think the Republicans are any better at getting rid of them. Diaper boy Vitter seems to be doing quite well... Craig seems quite happy....both still in the Senate....even after bouts of acute hypocrisy that should have landed them out in the alley.

To show I'm equal opportunity, some seem to be considering returning Clinton to another four years of opportunity to grope impressionable young women. The only good part is that assumedly his other hand wouldn't be near/on the doomsday button this time while he's getting a BJ.

Sure they do, but they don't suck. It appears that you are not up to speed on the hugh list of Republican preverts that is growing faster than the Ron Paul libertarian patriot amazing revolution. In fact your so-called conservative neo-con party can't keep up with the arrest and convictions everyday. And while you are at it, define conservative and don't give us the standard Conservative -Republician, Liberal- Democrat Paradigm Orwellian Spin....

As to the women issues in the Republican family values party, it appears that Republican men certainly do treat their women the same.....

Rudy G.....4 wives and one incest marriage to a cousin....whoever thought a yankee would be like a redneck from a swamp in Georgia or Western North Carolina

Newt Gringrich.....4 wifes and a ton of wife support payments forever for being unfaithful to each wife.

Fred Thompson---3 wifes and finally a toy young wife who is old enough to be his youngest daughter from his second marriage....

Heck lady, you belong to the mormon church political party and don't know it!

See - it gets personal

and then it all gets shitty - and then the real question gets lost.

What does Larry believe about immigration?

The counties in the 8th district have some of the fastest growing Latino populations in the state. Of course emotions are going to run high. I will tell you right now I stand WAYYYYYY to the left on this one. (Gee - Linda stands to the left of an issue? What a shock.) There are American Citizens who are being separated from their parents because of overzealous INS agents. Do those citizens have fewer rights than my child? Apparently so.

I want to hear what Larry has to say. I don't want to hear what a sweetie his campaign manager is, because in the long run, the woman who runs Howard Coble's office is really nice, too. Doesn't count for shit, though. I want to know what the man thinks - and how he will work to shape policy.

Be the change you wish to see in the world. --Gandhi

Complicated

If the Bush administration had its way these new US citizens would have more rights inside the womb than outside it. Once the umbilical cord is cut you have the right to bear arms and to remain silent until you have been rendered to a facility in another country and tortured.

There are American citizens being separated from their

parents because their parents broke the law.

Think about that one for a minute.

Now pretend I'm not talking about folks in this country illegally.

There are children separated from their parents in this country every single day because their parents broke the law. Are you saying that it is only the Latinos who shouldn't be separated from their children or is it simply okay for the Latinos to break the law and not everyone else? Society has to draw the line somewhere.

Not all INS agents are overzealous....just like not all police are overzealous.

...and actually, this thread wasn't about Larry. It's about how I won't listen to the Progressive purity mess from a hypocrite like Stoller.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

I'm going to regret saying this

But we're all culpable to some extent here. The government, business big and small, the American consumer, the immigrant, you, and me. We have all benefited from so-called illegal immigration.

If you've eaten a decent meal for two at a restaurant for less than $50 recently, then you're culpable because half that kitchen was staffed by undocumented immigrants. If not, then I guarantee you all of the vegetables were picked and the meat processed by undocumented workers.

Who the heck is Matt Stoler?

He must be a "noted" liberal blogger? Sometimes when people get a little recognition, they get their heads up their asses. Sorry you got left out. I'd be peeved, too!

Cheers,
Katy
