Where is Elizabeth Dole and why isn't the media asking the same question?

The other day an obvious question popped into my head.

Where's Elizabeth Dole?

Yes, I know she has lived outside North Carolina for the last half-century, but where are her visits?

Yes, I know she almost never visited the state over the last six years, instead sending staff members to "her" events.

But, this is an election year. Ole' Liddy Dole has to be out there shaking hands, kissing babies, chatting up farmers, rallying the base. Right?

The answer appears to be, No.

We know that Elizabeth Dole couldn't attend the Republican National Convention because she was so busy. So, I wondered just what she was so busy doing. I went to her campaign web page and there isn't even a list of events. Is that unusual. Yes. It. Is.

After Googling and searching various newspaper archives, these are the events I come up with for Elizabeth Dole this campaign:

August 19th - AgFIRST! forum on food safety sponsored by the N.C. Department of Agriculture
August 30thish - Advanced Direct, a small Greensboro direct-mail firm

That appears to be it. I'm not saying she didn't do more events, but if she did they don't appear in the Char-O, N&O, Google, News-Record, Google News, or her website. They also don't appear on her official webpage, where her last official visit to North Carolina was at the dedication of Clinton High School on August 14thish.

So, where in the world is Liddy Dole? Is she having any public events? Is she being interviewed by real reporters or is she being hidden like Palin? When are we going to have a big, state-wide debate? Are they appearing side by side on Meet the Press, because we know how Dole acts on MtP.

Any other public events? i'll be happy to add them.

I don't think that Senator McCain doesn't care what's going on in the lives of Americans, I just think he doesn't know.

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

She and Bob were at the Apple Festival

I think Kay was there too. That was at the end of August. The only other events I'm hearing about are small fundraisers here and there.

Vote Democratic! The ass you save may be your own.

I can't believe her website doesn't have a list of events.

But it does have a lovely section on how she met her husband! I suppose that could give us some insight into her qualifications to be Senator.

I see she also shows her list of "accomplishments." I wonder if she lists her events there? "Made it through an apple festival in some place called North...um...North..Carolina. Whew!"

New evidence: Dole may be using charity as a cover-up

From "For Which it Stands," a new progressive blog for VA-MD-NC:

Giving you an update on our earlier story, here is a self-described snippet from the accounting firm that handles the Elizabeth H. Dole Foundation Inc:

"Argy, Wiltse and Robinson, P.C. (AWR) has solid roots in government contracting. The firm was built around a government contracting client base which served as its foundation. AWR now has over 200 government contractor clients from emerging businesses to large middle market enterprises, establishing itself as the “go-to” firm for the industry. Our thorough knowledge of government contracting is what separates us from our competitors. AWR hires and develops professionals with extensive hands-on government contracting experience, many of whom have worked in the industry. This allows us to provide proactive advice and function as key advisors to clients."

What does a not-for-profit charity need an accounting firm ripe with government contractors for? Why hasn't her charity foundation relased financial statements since 2005?

Does this sound fishy to anyone else?

Thanks to Ed Cone for risking the GOP wrath.

Ed notes that Elizabeth Dole has been at a few more events than what I found, but finishes:

The WSJ article linked earlier today mentions a couple of other visits, and says that Dole skipped the Republican convention to campaign. But if she's criss-crossing North Carolina, she's doing it in stealth mode.

It's a curious strategy.
