Most of this insider audience on BlueNC has already heard the story of Dr. George Rekers.
But Dr. Rekers fought back against the naked display of his blatant hypocrisy by saying Jesus would do the same.
That was enough for Colbert to weigh in and make Dr. Rekers his Alpha MaleDog of the Week.
Time to laugh! And dance!
Come out, come out wherever you are...

FRC's response
Family Research Council president Tony Perkins responded to this story with the following statement in his newsletter:
Let me translate FRC's response
Said in the shameful voice of Tony Perkins:
"I can't believe this fool is plastered all over the widely-viewed "Colbert Report" and has discredited us.
I must immediately disavow, but how?
I know! By claiming I have no knowledge of my organization's founding, even though I've been running the place for Jeebus-knows-how-long.
I'll even put the words "corporate lawyer" in the release to sound real professional-like."
Tony & Dave:
Rekers loves being touched by a 20-year old rent boy. Ain't no getting away from it.
And the fact that the anti-gay forces have used Rekers to testify in court that gays shouldn't be able to adopt kids?
Stunning.
Fire up teh Google for all the facts and court docs you can handle on this one.
you are so cynical, usernamehere
The Family Research Council (FRC) was founded in 1983. Tony Perkins became its president in 2003.
If you have any evidence that anything he said was untrue, please share it. For instance, do you have any evidence that Mr. Perkins has ever met Dr. Rekers? Or do you have evidence that Dr. Rekers has had anything at all to do with the FRC anytime in the last decade?
No, I didn't think so.
Dave

This reminds me of
Rachel Maddow's recent roasting of the guy from FAIR (wrote Arizona's immigrant law). She asked him about 3-4 former leaders of that group that had engaged in various white supremacist rhetoric, and he kept whining about her bringing up "old" stuff.
