Fair and balanced thinking on the presidential race, courtesy of O-No. You'll notice they left out the part about McCain being a gold-digging adulterer, a misogynist, and a hot-head.

Comments

That editorial from the N&O

seemed more like an 8th grade summary of the presidential race. Seriously - I thought editorials were supposed to add something to a discussion, or give the opinion of the editorial staff. This was just a litany of who the candidates are and what they have said. What a waste of bandwidth and newsprint.

It would have been fine

if they had actually said who the candidates really are. They're afraid to be straight that John McSame is a lecherous old liar with a short fuse.

A round up of Alaskan newspaper stories on Palin

Before she was against the bridge to nowhere, she was for it. She told the Congress "thanks, but no thanks", but somehow managed to keep the money for other projects. Meanwhile, on Gravina Island - aka "nowhere", federal funds have been used to build an access road to a bridge that now doesn't exist.

Ye Gods. And they call us the ones who waste money.

almost as bad...

Lindsay Graham, on the morning talk show rounds kept driving the talking point that living in Alaska equates to foreign policy experience and national security creds.

In response I'm going to start pushing the view that since i live near a hospital, I'm pretty much a doctor. it's all about proximity right? So the next time any of you need surgery, or stitches, or a prescription, don't bother going to to the hospital. Jut hit up a house NEAR the hospital.

Dr. Jayro!

I need my head examined.

Oh, Lindsey Graham.

How terrible is it that some of our elected officials have to resort to the "...but she did stay at a Holiday Inn Express!" logic to defend the potential POTUS.

Makes me sick.

I'm stealin' that line, Chris

- that Palin's foreign policy experience is the political equivalent of "She did stay at a Holiday Inn Express!'

Other side of the coin....

If I accept your claim that Gov. Palin has no foreign policy experience, can you give me examples of Senator Obama's qualifying experience? Angry Candaians coming to Chicagoland hospitals for treatment that their socialized medicine doesn't cover, does not count.

Aside from being on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee

and Chairing the Subcommittee on European Affairs, Obama has also been deeply involved in nuclear non-proliferation. These functions have taken him to dozens of countries in Europoe, ME, Asia and Africa.

He also majored in International Relations at Columbia, and spent a year editing reports on 40 different countries for a global investment newsletter.

Those things may not make him a Henry Kissinger (thank God), but they blow Bush Jr.'s initial foreign policy experience away in comparison. Except for the Bin Laden family cookouts maybe...

SLAM DUNK!

Results?

Sounds like good experience, what were the tangible results. I honestly don't know what the Before/After Senator Obama - affects were for Asia and Africa. Can you enlighten me?

I was in the ME, never saw Senator Obama once. I thought he would like to see the violence upclose before he voiced his opposition to the SURGE.

Make up your mind

I was in the ME, never saw Senator Obama once. I thought he would like to see the violence upclose before he voiced his opposition to the SURGE.

You guys bash Obama for giving a speech in Berlin, calling it "premature" for a candidate who hasn't won yet, and imply that if he visits wounded American soldiers while he's in Germany he would be "using them for political gain", then you turn around and bash him for not visiting Iraq?

As far as the "upclose" part, so far the Republicans who've visited Iraq have huddled with their security entourages in the Green Zone, insulting guards because they were kept from getting their daily workout in the gym, not to mention missing their weekly manicure session.

Sounds like good experience, what were the tangible results.

It's called accumulative knowledge, which comes in handy when agenda-driven advisors whisper bullshit in your ears.

Green Zone activities

I don't know where you got your details, but party affiliation has little to do with what activities VIPs do while in Iraq. Who/What - ever you source is, they are wrong. If VIPs want to see soldiers out in the FOBs, then security measures are made so that they can check on the troops.

WOW! The Green Zone is a Paradise Major?

but party affiliation has little to do with what activities VIPs do while in Iraq. Who/What - ever you source is, they are wrong* MAJ T

Military Industrial Complex Bullshit MAJOR! Your commander in Chief is a Republican who is a confirmed liar about the war. I will remind you that when Senator McCain venture outside of the Green Zone to prove it was safe for marketing and buying Persian rugs in Downtown Badhdad. He had 14 attack Choppers over his head and was surrounded by over 2000 Military Personal Armed to the teeth with Senator McCain wearing a Dragon fly flack jacket to prove how the surge was working like a charm.

Any fool who has done time in the military, knows it is the most political movement on the face of the planet.

I suggest a evening of viewing the below TV series will expanded your knowledge of the Gunts and their view of politics with the Officers who command them.

And Senator Kerry?

Hey all knowing, because HBO said so... what security measures were made for Senator Kerry in Spring 2007? I know, do your sources????

Easy Mable....

My point was that Senator Kerry and Senator McCain were afforded the same level of security in their travels to ME. I didn't know you were so angry. I hope you get to feeling better. If my service to our great America causes you pain, might I suggest a residence in Canada or Europe.

Do you know how costly a ticket to Iraq would be? However, if you are an America, I would go in your place AGAIN - should I be called on. Your freedom means that much to me.

Just ignore him

Max is crazy.

Tactics vs. strategy & logistics

Major, I'm guessing from your online monikker and your comments that you've had military training. If so, you appear to have forgotten the old wisdom that amateurs talk tactics, while pros consider strategy and logistics.

Let's assume, for the purpose of discussion, that the "surge" (temporary troop escalation) has been a significant factor in the (of unknown duration) reduction in violence levels in parts of Iraq. That's a big assumption, of course, since there were simultaneous developments that were probably at least as significant, but let's grant you that point just to get to the more important one.

This temporary troop level escalation is a classic example of a tactic--in this case an effort to buy time for other longer-term strategies to work, when we're already stuck in a bad situation. The fact that McCain keeps hammering on this tactical point clearly shows just how narrow his vision is on matters of governance.

It ignores the strategic realities of the larger picture. This troop level escalation has further taxed our military troops, families, and resources--stretched near the breaking point. It has contributed to the neglect of the worsening violence in Afghanistan, and limited our options for response there.

Finally, and most importantly, it dodges the far more salient question about the judgment of our would-be presidents. Who showed the better judgment in the fundamental presidential-level decision of whether to invade Iraq in the first place? Hands down, it was Obama, who opposed that unnecessary and counterproductive invasion in the first place. McCain, a cheerleader for invasion from the start, was dead wrong, and our nation is suffering from the poor Bush-McCain judgment on that score today.

Interesting observation, but lacking....

Dan, I would go one step further.... Iraq and Afghanistan have never been the focus of this operation, and never will be. Sacking Hussain was a bonus and the future of Iraq could be good for US businesses.

We both know that activities to the East of Iraq are far more important than any to our security. Senator Obama wants to get snuggly with President Al and that makes me worried.

Should Senator Obama get elected, please don't take us out of the ME. Nightmares of President Carter and his miscalculation of Iran will be a hundred times worse.

This is where you show that you're just full of crap.

Senator Obama wants to get snuggly with President Al and that makes me worried.

That is complete and utter Rush Limbaugh bullcrap. Then PRESIDENT Obama will have talks with Iran after normal diplomatic steps are taken. Wow, remember when having diplomatic relations with Iran was unsavory and showed that you HATED America?

Sounds to me like Bush wants to get snugly with another nutbag, middle east nation.

Maybe he's working the same angle that his grandfather did, war profiteering.

George Bush's grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany.

The Guardian has obtained confirmation from newly discovered files in the US National Archives that a firm of which Prescott Bush was a director was involved with the financial architects of Nazism.

His business dealings, which continued until his company's assets were seized in 1942 under the Trading with the Enemy Act, has led more than 60 years later to a civil action for damages being brought in Germany against the Bush family by two former slave labourers at Auschwitz and to a hum of pre-election controversy.

I don't think that Senator McCain doesn't care what's going on in the lives of Americans, I just think he doesn't know.

I wish I was making this up..

This morning, Cindy McCain was on This Week with George Stephanopolous, and SERIOUSLY used Alaska's proximity to Russia as an example of Palin's foreign policy experience. This is getting ridiculous.

Does that mean

Most of the GOP are licensed proctologists?

Call me/GOP all the names you want....

Just promise me you will work hard, take care of your own family, don't expect the have's to provide everything for the have not's. If by me believing that it is the duty of every man and woman to make thier own life fruitful and not the governments, then I guess that would make me an asshole.

Call me/GOD

For everyone to whom much is given, of him shall much be required.

It is assuming that every Democrat

does not take care of their own family (while taking care of others), it is assuming that every Democrat does not work to make their own life fruitful instead of relying on the government - it isn't just being a Republican that makes one an asshole it is assuming these things that you have listed above.

***************************
Vote Democratic! The ass you save may be your own.

That would be your assumption, not mine.

The dems in our family are largely so, because of the formal education they received in the social work programs they completed.

Yup. Guess it would

Glad that's settled.

What's next?

not assholes

just have their heads up their you know whats.

Its like a new breed of ostrich.

You are all forgetting that Bush used the same line.

If someone can find the Al Gore debates, George W. Bush talked about sharing a border with Mexico equating to foreign policy experience. This is a commercial waiting to happen. Just begging to be made. It doesn't even need commentary.

I don't think that Senator McCain doesn't care what's going on in the lives of Americans, I just think he doesn't know.

Conservative Dissonance 2: Bristol Palin is Pregnant

Conservative Voter is beginning to think that Sarah Palin should be spending more time with her family. First no maternity leave after baby Trig was born...now this?

Conservative Voter has known better mothers in his time, believe you me.

Conservative Voter has been dutifully voting against his best interests since the Reagan administration. What are these guys trying to pull over on us this time?

Conservative Dissonance 3: Todd Palin DUI Arrest

In continuing with Frank's theme...

Ironically enough, the Christian Broadcasting Network News broke the story of Todd Palin's 1986 DUI Arrest.

He was 22 years old at the time. He was driving in a truck with some friends in the small southwestern Alaska town of Dillingham when he was pulled over for the DUI. As is customary, he was taken to jail briefly. Sarah and Todd Palin were high school sweethearts so they were dating at the time.

Personally, I know that this in no way effects her inability to be President, but the fact that all of this is rolling out and the VP pick was made on SATURDAY is outrageous. I thought Rick Davis ran a tighter ship. CBN is also pushing it in the reporting, imho. Case in point:

A DUI from 22 years ago seems to be a blip on the radar. Evangelicals know what it’s like to make mistakes. Trust me on that one. Plus, let’s put the Palin DWI in perspective here a little bit. I mean after all, Barack Obama has admitted to some past moral failures too in his youth…and he’s running for President.
