Democratic representatives have started openly jockying for Jim Black's speaker position. Is there any point in our agitating for a particular candidate, or is this inside baseball all the way?

We really need to get this over with...
This is getting old very, very quickly.

I agree with SD
Old and dangerous . . . and filled with the same old same old bullshit that's hard for regular people (like me) to understand.
This part was especially depressing:
See the issues play out? WTF does that mean? Wait until you're painted into a sleazy little corner and hope things "play out" for the best?
I don't really know what the "House Majority Leader" is supposed to do or not do, but it's hard to imagine that planning ahead is not in the job description.
The Dome also says Hackney has also been talked about as a possible successor to Black, but he said he is not running for the post. I suppose that's probably good news.
I don't know
as someone once said to me, At least he votes right (left) on most issues.
Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

Don't misunderstand me.
I totally support Joe as our local guy . . . and yes, I am on the record as saying so. But should he be speaker?
Certainly not if he doesn't want to.
If you want a more
If you want a more progressive agenda then you should support Hackney for speaker. But if you want to continue the pro-business, slightly regressive, agenda then support one of the other guys.
Alright, Anonymous
You'll understand the problem of taking an anonymous commenter's word on it. If you're still around, can you tell us why you say that?
What About His Seat?
While speculation over Speaker Black losing or resigning the Speakership is justified, what about his seat? If we "allow this to play out" we may be in a position where we lose his seat to the GOP.
With all his problems, the only way we can contest this seat now is if he resigns not only the Speakership but also his seat. Then the County Party can select a replacement who would then be eligible for placement on the ballot. That should be the concern. Since I am in his county, I needed to post this anonymously.
I Imagine he will keep his seat
Even if he loses the speakership, a la Trent Lott. But if he does not, we will just have to win it with good old progressive values.
I'm in Black's county and I'm not posting
anonymously. But...I understand. Funny that you should say exactly what I have said in the past. At first I didn't think Black should resign since we didn't have a Dem running in the primary. Now, I think the sooner the better. Do you know if we have anyone interested in the seat?

No..not Hackney.
Please, not Joe Hackney. Might as well put a sign up that says "Welcome to North Carolina. Closed for Business". Would be HORRIBLE for our state and definately would lead to the end of the Democratic control of the House. No body would give him money. People don't give Black money just bc he is Speaker. Folks give him money bc he is fair and good for business. That would end if Hackney became Speaker.
cmon type in a name at least
even if you aren't going to get it verified. It's so impersonal to talk to Anonymous.
