The Free Press out of Kinston is reporting that the State Board of Elections has found irregularities in the primary election held between Republican incumbent Stephen LaRoque and Pope puppet Willie Ray Starling in the 10th NC House district.
LaRoque lost the primary by only 7 votes. The board voted unanimously to hold a new primary election. More details will be available tomorrow.
More below the fold...
The winner of the primary will face Democrat Van Braxton. Nindec introduced us to Van in this post. Van's agreed to an interview with BlueNC, but with all of this in the air, it will be delayed just a bit. Rita, his campaign manager has done a beautiful job of keeping me in touch with what's going on in this case.
My title may be a bit misleading. The article did not indicate what the irregularities were and whether they had anything to do with Art Pope's alleged illegal use of his 527 to rig an election. Let's just call it....taking creative license.
Update: Here is today's story in The (Kinston) Free Press. It's fleshed out a bit more and has some background the AP story from last night does not have.
