SBOE to Art Pope: Up Yours Puppetmaster (Updated)

The Free Press out of Kinston is reporting that the State Board of Elections has found irregularities in the primary election held between Republican incumbent Stephen LaRoque and Pope puppet Willie Ray Starling in the 10th NC House district.

LaRoque lost the primary by only 7 votes. The board voted unanimously to hold a new primary election. More details will be available tomorrow.

More below the fold...

The winner of the primary will face Democrat Van Braxton. Nindec introduced us to Van in this post. Van's agreed to an interview with BlueNC, but with all of this in the air, it will be delayed just a bit. Rita, his campaign manager has done a beautiful job of keeping me in touch with what's going on in this case.

My title may be a bit misleading. The article did not indicate what the irregularities were and whether they had anything to do with Art Pope's alleged illegal use of his 527 to rig an election. Let's just call it....taking creative license.

Update: Here is today's story in The (Kinston) Free Press. It's fleshed out a bit more and has some background the AP story from last night does not have.

Comments

Anglico...whether it's Art Pope's

involvement that caused the irregularities or not, this has to make you feel good. You've been giving this drum a steady beating for a long time. I don't want a Republican to win, but it would be sweet justice to see Art Pope's hand-picked candidate to lose the second time around.

Maybe the voters

will get sick and tired of all this rightwing sleaze and reject anyone with an R beside his name.

I wonder if there's a connection between Pope and Decker? Some werid spy vs. spy vs. spy triple agent sort of thing. They both carry the stench of dirty money, so I wouldn't be surprised to find them joined at the hip.

Woohoo!

My Pope radar must be on the blink these days and you've become a full-fledged PopeBuster par excellence! Should be an interesting day tomorrow.

Not to mention the fact that all the Pope Puppets must be scrambling like mad to get a defense for the SBOE hearings later this month.

Van Braxton's campaign manager sent me the link

No special talents or radar....I dedicate this in your honor..... ;) I will never be able to keep up with all the Pope's shenanigans.

The N&O says it's not about

The N&O says it's not about the Puppetmaster, unless, of course, he's into vote rigging as well as electioneering. Here's the story.

The last comment by Starling dismissing the irregularities is just too, too rich. It's exactly what you'd expect from a bought-and-paid-for Puppet.

Art Pope might not sully his hands

with physically manipulating votes, but the mailings he funded through his 527 (possibly illegal) probably helped make this vote as close as it was. Without that there probably wouldn't have been a need for a new primary. It will be interesting to say the least.

Elections Board Orders New GOP Primary In 10th House District

POSTED: 10:56 pm EDT August 7, 2006
UPDATED: 10:56 pm EDT August 7, 2006

KINSTON, N.C. -- A second Republican primary should be held for the 10th District House seat, the State Board of Elections ruled Monday, citing voting irregularities and machine troubles.

At that earlier meeting, LaRoque presented affidavits from 20 voters who said they were not permitted to vote in the Republican primary; cast ballots that did not include the 10th District race; or were not asked by precinct workers in which primary they wished to participate.

There was also evidence of a 44-vote difference between the number of ballots cast and the number of slips signed by poll workers indicating voters were eligible to cast a ballot.

At Monday's hearing, C.M. Swann, a voting machine operator, said at least one of the new touch-screen voting machines may have had a calibration problem that contributed to irregularities.

Hmmm... touch-screen voting machine irregularities that lost Republican votes?? Some IT computer code-writing geek just got fired.

Actually, he probably got promoted....

Todd, I added a little code to your comment

To set off the story from your comments and to activate your link.

I mainly did the blockquote because I had promised to delete any post that was solely the text of an article a couple of days ago after a troll kept posting articles with no words of his own analyzing.

TarGator

Thanks

One question - how did you do that? I could use some handy-dandy instructions.

Where are the trolls?

I'm doing a lot of catching up right now, reading back threads, and when I saw the title for this one I assumed it would be troll heaven. After reading the post, I was sure that I was going to get to read some troll taunting. Where have they gone?

Shhhhh

I think they have more pressing matters to worry about.
