Open thread: Weekend wound up

On the road this weekend to celebrate my father-in-law's 90th birthday in Rising Sun, Maryland. There will be more than 150 guests at a surprise party tomorrow. Not much time for blogging this weekend.

Happy birthday to Pop!

PS If anyone has spare time (yeah, right) I'd love to get some info on the financial picture at the Pope-Orr Institute for Constitutional Law. My cursory research this week came up dry, which is a bit suspicious all by itself.

So much for my research "abilities."

Nothing suspicious here except an ex-judge getting compensated more than $150,000 for doing not much work on behalf of a political extremist who's trying to purify the North Carolina Party of Greed. Sounds about right.

You could ask in person next week:

Wednesday, March 21, Noon
Gubernatorial candidate Robert Orr speaks at the release of a poll by Civitas, Clarion Hotel, 320 Hillsborough St, Raleigh.

Maybe Art will be on hand also.

Judge Orr

Q: Could you explain how you're going to earn a living and run for governor all at the same time, even as you've just resigned the only job you've had in the past few years?

A: I'm sorry, but that falls into the category of attorney-client privilege. No comment.

Privilege indeed.

Why bother asking when everybody knows the answer?

you know

I wonder about civitas. A non partisan firm that has never had anything but Republicans speak...

Just kidding about the wondering btw.

I think it's time to file IRS complaints

against the whole Puppetshow, and Civitas in particular. It's my understanding that such filings are relatively easy to do - and even a cursory review of the Civitas activities would reveal it to be an expressly partisan organization.

Say hi to my place of birth

as you pass. Havre de Grace. Only hospital in the county at the time. Makes for fun listening to people butcher the pronunciation, particularly the ones who try to speak French.

And all the men and women merely players.”

We did say "hi"

when we drove by last night . . . Jane calls that town her old stomping grounds.

heh

hav-err duh gray-ss, right? my mom had trouble with that one when she moved to MD. also, "radiator".

That's right!

You've been there!

What's going on?

Aww...

You missed Valerie Plame testifying before the Oversight Committee.

It was delicious. :)

I'll be away from the computer much of the weekend as well.

My husband's company is having a big "to do" and I have to go be nice to people. Sigh

They have rented out an Embassy Suites for a couple hundred people and John and the girls will stay and do the swimming family stuff while I go back and forth to take care of the dog.....(and sneak time on the computer!)

Will miss both of you!

NC Community College System president retiring

NC Community College System president H. Martin Lancaster is retiring in May 2008, it was reported at today's meeting of the state board of community colleges. At the same time, his deputy, C.O.O. Fred Williams, is also leaving before that. The board has decided to hire a replacement for Williams, who will then replace Lancaster later.

Lancaster is a Democrat who served in the state House and in the U.S. House.

He's done a great job in his 10 years as head of the community college system.

wow

Poll says:
Has the Bush administration done all that it could reasonably be expected to do to care for the needs and problems facing returning military personnel from the Iraq war, or not?
Doing all it could 17%
Not doing all it could 76%
Not sure 8%

Totally off topic

I've been sitting at number 1 at the top of the MyDD bracket challenge at ESPN Tourney Challenge group thingy - been #1 since Friday. I know you're all massively impressed. :) I'm way down on overall. Duke and Maryland messed up my brackets, but not too horribly. Let's just say....it's a good thing Chris Bowers and Matt Stoller have politics to fall back on. They are just about in dead last.

my bracket

this year is horrific. Im honestly embarassed to admit how little time I put into it. March Madness deserves more attention than I have been giving.

What is the prize for winning the MyDD pool? You should ask for a guest appearance on the front page.

I just dropped

I had two teams lose yesterday. I think last year it was a guest post. I'm pretty sure unless the finals are Kansas and UNC and UNC wins, that my remaining bracket can't claim first again. Whine. Still.......it's fun being near the top. You could do five brackets to enter the contest. I only did two. One had ACC teams going as far as they could. You can imagine how that bracket is doing.
