James's blog Comments Happiness? Looks like it could be over-rated. Or maybe that's just true for those of us who lean in the direction of melancholy. happiness is Having a strong plan on the part of the national democrats, with an invincible marketing plan, that can rout any rovian swiftboat attempts. ah happiness...perchance. TurnNCBlue As much as I'd hate to start a riot... Happiness may be Edwards' supporters supporting a viable candidate that breaks his very own mold of status quo, with enough time left to both preserve party unity and not make the entire primary season as much of a mockery as the MSM tries their hardest to do. Go easy on me, as I may just be rambling. An email to johnedwards.com This is an email that I just sent to Elizabeth Edwards. Those of you who know me, know that I'm, above all, pragmatic ...and was on the ticket with John in 1998. If you echo my sentiments, please also contact the Edwards campaign.... The gloves must come off. John must win in South Carolina. There is no way America will elect a black man, born a Muslum and with a middle name of Mohammad. He will be a piece of meat to Rove. Hillary Clinton's healthcare reform plan is personally responsible for the 1994 republican sweep of congress ...and her insistance on occupying her husbands time to raise money for her senate campaign cost Al Gore the election and gave George Bush the presidency in 2000. I was there in 1993-1994 and will gladly provide the details and proof of the former. Her deal with MetLife, Cigna, Aetna, etc cut out the smaller insurance companies ...they then raised 20 million for Gingrich. With just an average dirty republican campaign the republicans will win. Four more years of corporate sponsorsed looting will ruin the economy, the middle class and the planet. Go REALLY Fight, John! what a load of bull! I know I was going to shut up, but I can't stand idly by when I read a load of B.S. on here. Barack Obama is NOT a muslim (maybe you can learn to spell muslim first before you start showing your xenophobe nature) and never has been. His middle name is NOT Mohammed. I thought this place would be the last spot on the internet where I would find this tripe. Maybe you are one of the easily misled people who have read that now famous e-mail going around. You might want to check out the truth before you start spreading that crap. I can appreciate your support for Edwards, but using a bunch of lies to support him isn't exactly helping his case. Left on 49 I think this illustrates what we should expect should Obama become the nominee. Lies and innuendo will run rampant. The smear machine will be in overdrive. The war will reach epic proportions. America will be put to the test. The odds of failure will be high, but so too would the potential for change. Time to buy some virtual body armor. It's going to be a bloody battle no matter who we nominate. nothing to do with the eventual nominee The smear machine will be in overdrive no matter who the nominee is, it probably will be a different kind of smear depending on who the nominee is, but you know it's coming regardless if it's Obama, Hillary, or Edwards. Just got back from the local M.L. King celebration. The excitement over Obama was of course immense, which strengthens my believe that no matter what racist tendencies there still might be in a segment of the population, that would be neutralized by an immens African-American voter turnout. Left on 49 I think that there will be an immense Dem turnout No matter who the nominee is, to tell you the truth. The lines around the block in 2004 will have nothing on this. Poll officials in all states might do well to consider longer hours on election day. Wouldn't that just twist the pundit's undies? Be the change you wish to see in the world. --Gandhi I'm not so sure that's really an Edwards supporter Obama himself said he is a Christian when asked about this email. I don't know what he was "born" and I don't know what religion he was raised in, but he is a Christian now. We all know what his middle name is and we'll hear plenty about it if he is running in any spot in the general. Blakehoo is the newest BlueNC member, so this is just a hit and run and is probably meant to incite anger against Obama and Edwards. *************************** Vote Democratic! The ass you save may be your own. with "friends" like this John doesn't need enemies. Holy crap. And T, don't be quiet. Speak your truth, man. Speak your truth. Be the change you wish to see in the world. --Gandhi I agree with you.... but I would think this isn't a real Edwards support email, more like a subliminal anti-Obama attack. Or, an anti-Democratic attack. If I the situation were reversed and I wanted to attack the Republicans, I might come out cheering for Ron Paul and talking about how Huckabee is against evolution, McCain sold out fellow POWs, Romney's a flip-flopper, blah blah blah. As Anglico says above. The Republicans just showed in South Carolina the dirty tricks they will play on each other, given that, the attack above is actually pretty low-key. One of the pitfalls of childhood is that one doesn't have to understand something to feel it. - Carlos Ruiz Zafon Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over. -me p.s. This is also why I think it's stupid to pin your plans on Republican cooperation. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over. -me agreed oh I'm sure it wasn't from a real Edwards supporter. Just some moron doing a drive-by. But if The Kerry campaign learned us anything it's that you always have to respond with the truth, no matter how stupid some claims against you are. Left on 49 Exactly....and you respond over and over again ...and it probably even helps to get the truth out ahead of the attacks. *************************** Vote Democratic! "Keep the Faith" "Keep the Faith" From my friend in Kenya Just to keep things in perspective: Jambo Jim and Family, I hope you are alright, we are fine though still trying to cope with situation that resulted in the post-election violence. Most of the areas within the country calm is slowly coming back, Nairobi especially, people are going on with business though tension is there in some parts of residential areas but the law enforcers are trying to maintain peace. All said and done, our country has moved so many steps backwards, it will take time to heal, many of us did not anticipate the magnitude of the destruction caused by the strife as a result, people of different ethnic groups used to live peacefully prior and we pray that we do that once again, violence will just cause more destruction and even deaths as have witnessed here and other parts of the world. Our tourism and agricultural sector are the most hit, there are lots of cancellation as people opt for other destination, these has left many of the dependents with no income at all, we hope things will get better. There are signs of hope as the international body of mediators join the rest to promote peace, meanwhile we look for divine intervention in all the troubles we have gotten ourselves into. Regards, Alex US Healthcare Costs So I know that US citizens pay more for healthcare than other folks, but I didn't know the numbers. These numbers according according to Prof. Timothy Taylor of Stanford. Per year, per person: United States - $3500 Canada - $2000 United Kingdom - $1200 Germany - $1800 Japan - $1500 These numbers are from the mid-nineties, God knows what they are by now. Taylor expects US health care costs to reach 25% of the GDP by 2020. - - - - -The GOP will try to suppress the vote in 2008. - - - - -http://twitter.com/Jerimee 2003 numbers BTW, these are OECD countries. How does wait time compare in those countries. In other words, it is doable. Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over. -me Look at the Germany numbers I'm not well educated on the issue, but that Timothy Taylor guy I was listening to said something about Germany having the most promising model for a sensible health plan. - - - - -The GOP will try to suppress the vote in 2008. - - - - -http://twitter.com/Jerimee We would never have numbers as good as Germany. There is also a social aspect to this. In general, the older generation of Germans do what they are "supposed to do". I know that is a broad generalization, but my brother lived in three or four cities in Germany over the course of several years, doing business, and said they were the most disciplined people he had ever met. One of the pitfalls of childhood is that one doesn't have to understand something to feel it. - Carlos Ruiz Zafon Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over. -me Thanks for the interest! I appreciate the replies... Especially the xenophobe part. No that was a real email, I did send it after waking up early this morning in somewhat of a cold sweat... My grandmother died friday and SC relatives we up for her funeral, today. That really is the stuff (on Obama) that is going around, in SC. Thankfully, no one has yet supported Mrs. Clinton on this blog.... I've been working for healthcare reform since the first Bush presidency and it really is this bad! However, Republicans will eat us alive based on this level of discourse among ordinary people. People don't think! ...they are moved to vote ...emotionally. Republicans will push every hot button people have this fall. Pragmatically, John is the only Choice that can be elected in the '08 general. We need to focus on working for him! Rory Blake Carthage Rory....you are right about one thing People vote their emotions and not their reason....at least too many people do. That email circulating is exactly what we will hear and I've seen too many elections where a strong GOTV effort coupled with poor voter education on the candidates caused a good candidate to lose. I've experienced it first hand in small races. The idea is to combat it head on if and when it happens. Keep it out in the open so we can denounce it. The thing we shouldn't do is sweep it under the carpet like John Kerry did with the Swift Boat Veterans to see if it would die down on its own. By the time he addressed it, it was too late. Obama has addressed this email in the last debate I believe, but the word obviously hasn't gotten out. From everything I've read, his own father - a man he did not know after a very young age - was agnostic and his stepfather was not a practicing muslim. When Obama lived in Indonesia he went to Catholic school. His mother and maternal grandparents were Christians. These facts need to be repeated over and over again. The first thing we need to do is combat this in our little corner of the world. The last thing we need to do is use it ourselves. We know the Republicans will use it and I am as certain of that as you are. Sorry if our comments weren't exactly welcoming. We've had a lot of hit and runs lately. We're a little wary about that. *************************** Vote Democratic! The ass you save may be your own. Fox Attacks Homeless Veterans One of the pitfalls of childhood is that one doesn't have to understand something to feel it. - Carlos Ruiz Zafon Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over. -me Rory! I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother. Grace and I have missed you. Give us a call some time. Obama's middle name is Hussein, not Mohammed. The emails that are going around are to be expected, I suppose, because of the simple-minded racism that is still out there. I agree with you that John Edwards is the best choice for President in 2008. However, I think he's in a difficult spot, because he can't say things like "America won't elect a black man." (and I'm not sure that's true - it's not why I support John.) Rory Blake was the 6th district candidate for congress in 2006, and also ran for congress in 1998, when Edwards won his Senate seat. My husband and I worked on his campaign, and consider him a friend. I can tell you he is good man, and can verify he worked on the Clinton health plan in the early 90's. His bonafides are real. Be the change you wish to see in the world. --Gandhi Thanks Linda ...and to Grace! Gosh! Linda, It's good to hear from you! You and Grace are my friends. So is John Edwards. We've got to get people to support our local guy ...even if it means not looking liberal enough... The trouble with democrats is that most of us ...think too much! There's nothing wrong with supporting someone from our local area. In Kenya they may take it too far, but this is a basic emotional fact. We MUST support John, or we'll all regret it because even a MODERATE republican will keep the same old administration officials in place. We've just got to help John in SC. Thanks again! Tangent time! Hey, my "people" are from the Mt. Gilead area and I swear if their last name is Blake or Haywood I'm related to 'em some way or other (my father's a Haywood, his mother a Blake who married a Haywood) ... drop me an email if you want -- angrygrrlsrants at gmail dot com. :) Creepshow Hilarious From The Locker Room The conservative movement constitutes an alliance of those who accept unchangeable facts rather than trying to wish fantasy into reality . . . Hahahahahahahahahaha. I guess that means that no one working in the Pope Empire is part of the conservative movement! Fred Thompson is out Maybe that's because the only groups who endorsed him are ignorant reactionaries. Wasn't Grampa Fred the great white hope? Hacking away at Fascism one by one!
