How's everyone?

"If boiling people alive best served the interests of the American people, then it would neither be moral or immoral." Max Borders, Civitas Institute

Or driving home from Durham.

or burned out on blogging
or sick and tired of politics
or catching the flu
or watching teevee
or falling asleep grading papers (my spouse)
or doing homework (my daughter)
or making lists (me)

SCHIP

Just read that the Senate passed the second SCHIP 64-30. Of course, Dole and Burr voted no again.

Catching the flu

I'm sick. Probably not the real flu.....but I'm going to bed.

Two confirmed cases of MRSA at Katie's high school. One of the kids was in a class that met in the theater right before Katie's tech theater class, so we were assured the classroom has now been cleaned.(Not sure this really does much.) Neither of the students is related or in any classes together. They also do not ride the same bus. Katie was frustrated because one of the kids is a freshman, but because of privacy issues they won't say who it is. They will send a letter home if a student was in class with the infected student. Of course, there's no way to know how many students could have come in contact during lunch since they are required to eat in the lunch room.....or at the lockers....or in the student center.

They handled the gun/gang attack threat much better, I think.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Apologies for my absence. The rumors of my demise are greatly exaggerated (though not by much).

Have some photos of Marshall Adame at the Havelock Chili Festival on October 20th.

Here's Marshall pimpin' a big ol' Adame for Congress banner.

Here's Marshall with Ms. Cathy Zeigler.

What have YOU done today to elect a Democrat?

Thomas

What have YOU done today to make the world a better place?

Photo edit

I changed the image size, the proportions were off.

Better, thanks

was it really on AP?

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

Yep.

Gary Robertson called to confirm that I was Anglico and it was in his story earlier this week. Didn't get a lot of pick up, and several papers cut that part of his story.

Down in Kinston

The big news has been the apology of former Rep. LaRoque to Art Pope. The Kinston Free Press had excellent coverage of the story. However, our local online rag, the KinstonPress, failed to even mention the story. You may remember them from the infamous "Fake Van Braxton Site." The local KinstonPress is known as the "coupon site" or "Sampley's Own." The motto of the KinstonPress is something like "All news, no spin." Of course I guess it is true that if you do not print the news then you cannot possibly spin the news. I believe the preacher calls that a "sin of ommission."

The local Republicans under the chairmanship of LaRoque have called for a moratorium on low income housing in Kinston. They passed this resolution just as soon as a "low income" housing development was proposed right out LaRoque's back door. The city council denied the permit after the planning board passed it. So to court we go. Many of the locals feel we may lose because the developers have retained the services of some of those big-city lawyers who know some Latin words like "et al." Nothing like a first rate education.

You gotta love the local Republicans. They come right out and pass resolutions against the "low income." And it ain't like we don't have many "low income." I guess they will be all right as long as the "low income" don't vote. According to the latest statistics, everyone who lives here is considered "low income" unless they married well.

If you are on your way to the beach stop by for a visit - unless of course you are "low income."

Thanks for the update, Reasonably

Any more insight about how much money changed hands in the deal? Apparently LaRoque bought his way out of the defamation suit - and is probably sworn as part of the deal to stay quiet about it.

It would be nice to know what it cost him.

Listening to NPR this morning. It would seem only Kay Hagan is

running against Liddy here in NC. Not only did the N&O leave out Jim Neal yesterday in their discussion of this race, but on NPR this morning they discussed the polling numbers for Kay Hagan vs. Liddy, went on to talk about how the Iraq war can be used against Liddy in the future to bring her numbers down, but there was nary a word about Jim Neal at all.

If Jim Neal's candidacy is going to get any real media time, it looks like we are going to have to begin to put our heads together and start doing it from here.

I want to put together a letter to the News & Record in Greensboro to see how we can get some ink for Jim there, in Kay's backyard. I would appreciate any assistance from y'all regarding how best to draft said letter and any information you might have regarding good contacts at the N&R that may be interested in getting the message out.
My background in working for candidates is walking neighborhoods, writing letters to constituants and making phone calls to constituants. I've yet to contact media, so again, any ideas from those of you with that experience would be appreciated. Someone from Guilford County has to stand up. Might as well be me.

Amen.

Make sure you send your complaint to WUNC, too - or whichever station you heard the report on. Post your letter here and others will pick it up and do the same. Links to online forms (letters, listener feedback, etc.) are good to include here as well.

Thanks for the input, A. I could use some

assistance from any of our BlueNC Sistern and Brethern regarding the drafting of the letter (I will send to WUNC as well).

I don't want to make this a complaint letter as much as I want to be sure to get across the point to our local media that there are two candidates running in the Democratic primary to take on Liddy and that the public needs to be reminded every time the issue is approached by the media that this is the case. If they want to discuss polling numbers, we want them to say Jim is at XX% vs Dole, Kay is at XX% vs Dole, etc.

If any of you have some experience with this sort of thing and would like to give me some tips, please leave me a message. If not, I'll just make something up and hope for the best. ;-)

Also, as I stated above, if any of you know someone you have dealt with in the past at the Greensboro News & Record and would like to pass that name along to me, that would be good.

That was news to me as well, lcloud.

I suppose I'll add Mr. Hendrix as well, even if he had the bad taste enough to once be a Republic.

As long as he saw the light, I suppose it's ok.

I worry about people who switch parties and immediately run for office. It seems too expedient. It's one thing to realize that the party you belong to no longer adequately represents your beliefs - it's another to decide, whoo hoo, now I'm a {insert affiliation here} I'm going to run.

I'm just cynical. At least he cared enough about what was happening within the R party to decide he had to make a stand.

Hey Fun, I will be writing to WUNC also

but not till Saturday. I'll PM my letter to you.

Thanks Momoaizo!

I can usually put together something without sounding totally stupid, but I'd like a point of reference so maybe I'll come off as readable. ;-)
