Open Season: George Bush

So. The Preznit will be on the boob tube tonight telling more lies to the world. Why he's even bothering is beyond me. George Bush doesn't care what Congress has to say about his insane war in Iraq. He doesn't care what Walter Jones has to say. Or Howard Coble. Or any Democratic representative. Or the American people. The troop surge has already begun.

What an ass.

Still meeting, no word

RALEIGH, N.C. -- House Democrats met privately Wednesday night to choose the likely successor to outgoing Speaker Jim Black from among at least five candidates.

Democrats began listening to speeches from the candidates during a closed-door meeting at the Legislative Building late Wednesday but declined to provide updates, saying only that they planned to cast votes.

already there indeed

Was talking with a Fayetteville friend earlier and he told me about all the folks shipping out.
I'm going to put a few more links up with info on this on the post I just did in a few.
If I hear anything on the speaker race, I'll post something.
My wild guess is it hits the wires before the speech.
I assume AP's Gary Robinson and half the N&O state staff are standing outside the auditorium.
I can't begin tell you the things I heard tonight in Carrboro and Chapel Hill about them scheduling this at tipoff time. People are hot.

If that were...oh shit he said nucular...to work

it wouldn't be a bad thing.

If we pull out 40,000 and draw back to three major bases, with about 80,000 troops in and around Baghdad, we could make it safe. Make Baghdad safe and you might help stabilize the country by the time we withdraw in one year.

Meek

Jerry Meek on the speech:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 10, 2006

NC Democratic Party Chair Responds To President Bush's Escalation of Iraq War

Raleigh- North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Jerry Meek tonight issued the following statement in response to President Bush's speech on the Iraq War:

"Tonight, President Bush offered only an escalation of the same failed Iraq strategy he's pushed for four years."

"The American people, and the thousands of brave men and women from North Carolina who continue to serve in this war, deserve a new strategy not a new PR campaign. Now, by sending more troops into the middle of the Iraqi civil war, the President is ignoring the lessons of history, the advice of military experts, the recommendations of the bipartisan Iraq Study Group, and the will of the American people."

"Tonight, I call on North Carolina's Republicans in Washington to join Democrats in opposing President Bush's irresponsible escalation of this war. It is time for Republicans like Robin Hayes, Patrick McHenry, and Richard Burr to stand up for our brave troops in combat by holding the President accountable and demanding a new direction in Iraq that turns the country over to the Iraqis and gets our troops out of the Iraqi civil war."

i wonder

why Jerry didnt mention Dole. Maybe because she has been attached to Bush at the hip since 2002, even though she was elected promising to be an independent voice.

Maybe because she's insignificant

...he didn't want to shine a light on her or give the old bat a reason to respond.

I would guess the difference is their stances.

The Republicans mentioned are leaning against Bush and with America. Dole on the other hand...

U.S. Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., "supports a temporary surge in U.S. troops, provided those troops are given a clearly defined mission and achievable military objectives that will aid in bringing stability to Baghdad," said his spokeswoman, Laura Caudell.

U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole, R-N.C., when asked Tuesday if she supported or opposed increasing the U.S. troop presence in Iraq, released this statement: "I am certainly not alone in saying that I am not satisfied with the current situation in Iraq. But I strongly believe that we must win - the stakes are too high for the stability of the Middle East region and for the security of the United States and the entire world."

obama

#1 lots of uhs
#2 I may be biased, but i dont think he is particulary "presidential". he is very impressive, but as a senator.
#3 I still think he is bad at staying on a Democratic message. I am scared to death that he could be as harmful to us in this state as Hillary would be, and because of what he says not because of his skin color or middle name.

Or I could just be biased and angry about the presidents speech. Definetly a ton of "uhs" and "ums"

Dear God, WRAL read a message from Biddy

She's encouraged by the Presidents speech....I guess the saying is true, loosers of a feather...oh wait

No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.

She's an idiot

I don't thing she's had an original idea in the last 30 years. If she's encouraged by what the Child King had to say tonight, she's more hopeless than even I imagined. What a tool.

Lance, what happened to the "latest comment" window?

If you've already discussed this, please forgive...I like the "random blogs" but I can't follow the discussions. :(

I think I liked it better with it . . . even if there were only 4 latest comments to observe.

I'm missing it, too
