NO-OLF Rally a Huge Success

And a very good time was had by all - well, the Navy guys might not have had such a great time .... however, I must say the folks in Washington County are super polite. (They were much nicer to the Navy than I would have been)

Enjoy the show. More later.

Great photos!

Thanks.

Photobucket one day. Every time I look, it's different.

(Like, where did my captions go?)

Darn, I don't get anything

except a picture of a camera with the lens looping

See What I Mean?

I tried it on my blog - saw it, then saw the camera looping picture. But I can see it here.

[insert head banging smiley here]

Alright, they came in this time

Great pictures and I saw the captions too! Can't wait for the "more later"!

These slide shows

are so cool. Thanks for posting them tonight, U. Pictures like this tell a story that is sooo much easier to read this late at night than one made of a bunch of words. :) That's really nice sometimes.

[I've been reading boring 'procedures' and training crap all dang day. This was just what I needed.]

This show is wonderful

This is an emotional issue and these photos help show how so many people have pulled together on this issue. I can't wait to see more.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Vote Democratic! The ass you save may be your own.

Heh, the Navy said to take OUT the emotion!

Yeah, like that can happen when you take the heart and soul out of a community and destroy a wildlife refuge.

North Carolina, NAACP President, Dr. Rev. Bill Barber was awesome. He grew up in Roper and his mother still lives there. He was right when he said, "The noise from the Super Hornets, will not be white noise, it will not be black noise, it will be loud noise for all the people". There are two beautiful black communities on each side of the runway that the Navy has totally discounted. It is much easier for the Navy to ignore the poor communities then have to deal with them.

I do enjoy hearing Dr. Rev. Bill Barber

Every single time he speaks. He always makes me see things differently than I normally would. He is a wonderful speaker.

For any of you that may of stayed until the end of the night (1230am), I was the last person to speak. I mentioned a report by the Navy themselves titled, "Navy Ashore Vision 2030". It shows where the Navy desires themselves to be by the year 2030.

On page 29 of the 55 page report it shows 213 FA-18s at NAS Oceana and 20 FA-18s at MCAS Beaufort, SC. So what does it show at MCAS Cherry Point, you may ask? Only 20 EA6Bs. Wanna read it? You better hurry, you know they might remove it soon......

Hmmmmm....

I copied pasted the link to my browser & it worked?

If you Google "Navy Ashore 2030" it should be the first result.

Quick.
I've been trying and trying and can't get to it.

It comes up in Google search - but I can't get to the page itself.

I toldja they're on to us!

*giggles* It's funny to me they have to outsmart the people from "nowhere".

Great diary, great photos.

I'm proud of NC for standing up to the OLF.

Unique,

Fantastic pictures!

Once again can we really trust these multi-million dollar studies?

The elected leaders at Cherry Point aren't reading it, or they wouldn't be trying so hard to be duped.

No we cannot trust any of these reports

Here is some info on the studies

The DEIS came out in 2002 and public comments where made to include asking the navy to look at various other sites for which they answered over 150 times a careful siting study was performed...

The rest of these documents where finalized in this order and the Navy does not want you to comment on these documents.

Airfield and Airspace study of the Introduction of the F/A-18 E/Fs to the East Coast, final report Rev A 6 December 2002, ATAC Corporation.

Or as I like to call it the ATAC report. This document is what generated all the flight operations numbers. This document describes all the airfields and many of the military restrictive zones to include flights and operations at those. This document created the 2218 flight operations to the second OLF. This document is used by the next report.

Wyle report, WR 02-08, Noise Study for the Introduction of F/A-18 E/F to the East Coast, Apr 2003, Wyle Labrotories

I call this one the Wyle report, it is responsible for all the noise contour maps; dB DNL contours, studies of impacts on the region. If it has something to do with noise, this is where you will find it.

Outlying Landing Field (OLF) Siting Study, May 2003

The company or orginization that created this study was so proud of it, they did not put their name on the cover. This study is the study that widdled down all the sites to the final 6 sites for inclusion and to be used by all the Alternatives as needed. One of these is to support the Alternatives for Beaufort, SC. Of particular importance is this is the LAST study finalized before the FEIS will be released. By looking at this study, it appears that the Navy created this document.

Yet this document should be the FIRST document as the navy has stated over and over that they did a careful study to get to the right sites. So how much reverse engineering was going on with this study? This study should be thrown out just for that potential. This entire process should be thrown out on this premise alone. This is the study the Navy is siting over 150 times stating a careful siting study was conducted. Careful my eye......Every site that folks have asked about is in here and disqualified.

The Navy authors who created this document are geniuses. Every site or proposal (except for the off-shore carrier option) someone made was in this document, how brillient of them. Why we are so stupid not to have read all their reports to see they have already addressed our concerns and proven our ideas/requests where looked at and found wanting. Here it is, in black and white. You people are just grasping at straws.

If this document was finalized and untouched before the DEIS came out in 2002, then I would belief the Navy, but for it to be the LAST document finalized, NOT A FREAKING WAY will I belief the Navy or this report. It is void in my opionion and this entire NEPA process is voided with it as this document is suppose to be the building block of this entire process.

FEIS released July 2003.

14 documents to include 2 for the DSEIS are released. Feb 23, 2007

All of these documents should have been performed and included in the FEIS back in 2002 time frame. This shows the magnitude of how sloppy the Navy was when preparing this NEPA process. 12 technical documents that would have not been performed if Judge Borlyn (sp) would not have steped in? Over 1000 pages just in the DSEIS? This is stagering. This proves the contempt the Navy has had for the people of NC since the begining of this process.

Can we trust the Navy at all?
The only thing we can trust from the Navy is continued contempt towards us. The Navy can fly as low as 1000 feet over populated areas, 3000 feet over refuges and 500 feet over unpopulated areas (in compliance with FAA regs) and can be as much as 4 miles off the flight path from point A to point B. Also, if I understand the Commanders comments, the pilots can fly any way they want to get to the second OLF.

Why I bring this up, during the Washington County public hearing two jets flew over the James Center low enough and loud enough to cause converstations to stop due to the noise. That was in excess of 60dB to me the talker. There is not a military base anywhere in the area, so why was that pilot over the James Center? Because he could be. You would think the Navy would keep their pilots away from a public hearing that was trying to prove to the region they needed this OLF. What was neat was we had the Navy fly-over which stopped all conversations, and within seconds we had 2 geese fly over and they encouraged conversations...

Show us more, show us more!

This is great!

This is what the Navy wants to destroy, why?

Look at those tractors, not a blimish on them, talk about pride of a job well done. This is what is supporting the habitat of the region, these machines of man are coexisting with nature, the Navy must remove the habitat in order for their machines of man to safely operate.

Great

Thanks
