McHenry set to attack Iran

Insists we wait until 2008 to evaluate surge in Iraq

North Carolina's 10th District Congressman Pat McHenry told Hardball's Chris Matthews today that he supports a military strike in Iran "to eliminate their nuclear capability." Matthews confirmed with this question: "You believe the possession of a nuclear weapon is itself justification for a US air attack?" McHenry replied, "I believe so."

If you can listen past the McHenry comments you will hear some sanity from Alabama's Representative Artur Davis, who spoke last month at North Carolina's YD convention in Greensboro.

Earlier in the MSNBC interview Matthews asked McHenry, "When can we ask ourselves if this surge is working." Pat insisted that this "new plan is taking hold." Then he named 2008 as the time to do any evaluation. Here's that video:

Again, stay tuned after McHenry's comments to here Rep. Artur Davis speak rationally about our prospects in Iraq. Davis said,

"This world is full of tragedy and suffering. Our military and our power can't always turn around tragedy and suffering. We're learning the limits of our power in Iraq and a wiser president would understand that and would take this vast number of troops out of harm's way."

Pat is such a dick head.

And a chicken shyt coward to boot. On this particular day, BlueNC Veterans Day, I wouldn't mind if somebody were to kick his whiny ass.

Yes Mein dat Furher! We start a super race again?

wouldn't mind if somebody were to kick his whiny ass.* A

I am ready to do that sir. Remember that movie "Dr Strangelove" with Peter Sellers. I can see him riding that nuke down with his rear end pointed toward Target X. The only problem is that he would most likely enjoy it since he is Congressperson "Patty"......OOOOOOOO WEEEEEEEEE Brokenback Mountain Republican Cowboy Patty...

I don't support Patrick McHenry, but . . .

I do NOT support Patrick McHenry. I feel that his policies are morally reprehensible, and that the policies he advocates have severly damaged our country.

But the above post is inexcusable and disgusting. The obvious homo-phobic tone should be repudiated. If this statement where made on a right-wing blog about a Democrat, the entire blogosphere would be up in arms (and rightfully so).

Hateful, discrimanatory, and offensive remarks like this must be condemmed, regardless if they are made against a Republican or a Democrat.

I hear you, ravenclaw,

But don't assume we read every comment. I'm not one who understands the faux German humor so I often skip over his writing. Now that I've read it, I assume it's supposed to be a joke but I don't think it's very funny. It just seems kind of stupid.

I have to confess to making plenty of disparaging comments about McHenry's rumored sexuality. I often speak of him in pejorative words that I hope aren't anti-LGBT. The issue many of us have with McHenry is that he is (widely known to be) a practicing homosexual who preaches against homosexuality. Even if he's not gay, I despise him as a candidate that uses homophobia as a wedge issue and GOTV technique. I despise his ongoing threats to equal rights.

As to many bizarre or unacceptable comments on this entire site: I don't agree with them but I usually don't take the time or energy to reply. Thank you for choosing to comment here. Please forgive those of us who read that comment and decided to take a pass.

It's Max, raven

He's sort of the unhinged prankster around here. Sometimes he brings teh funny, usually not. But the efforts are always seriously over the top and usually beyond the bounds of good taste. You're probably right, but I've watched other bloggers try to put a lid on Max without success, and until he's giving us reasons to ban his IP outright, we all just sort of know that Max is Max.

And a quibble: I don't see the tone as homophobic. I agree with DQ that Max is picking on hypocracy, not gays. And a second quibble: statements of a much more offensive nature than this one are posted on right-wing blogs about Democrats all the blessed time.

I strongly support having McHenry pilot the lead

aircraft (Piper Cub) ...equipped, of course, with a remotely controlled self-destruct mechanism...or a suicide bomber as co-pilot.

A, would you mind packing his chute, please?

Can you even believe this horrible little dweeb is

talking on national television about killing people as if he knows anything about it at all?

What kills me is knowing he'll be the first vote on reinstating the draft. All sad and serious about it but resolved because "it must be done for the future of our country."

Is there a name in the military for guys like this? Who talk big and can't deliver in the field? Don't you think he would fall apart under any kind of combat pressure? Or is that a stereotype from the movies?

I saw that

And using my CSI technology I have reconstructed the room where the TV was located and have a psychological and DNA profile of everyone in it. I just can't figure out lil' Patty. The DNA is inconclusive, voice profile ambiguous and not showing any spine on the MRI over IP. Maybe I can pull something from the glass of Kool-Aid.

Hey, can someone that front pages things

change "invade" to "attack." He made the distinction and I ignored it but it's true he didn't really support an actual invasion.

Hey, Greg, I originally recorded it "live" while the VCR ran. But then I had to rerecord it from the VCR tape because my cats kept walking in front of the camera. They weren't too impressed with either Pat or Chris Matthews.

Has this jackass

not seen what is happening in Iraq? We should not and cannot attack Iran also. We are not an aggressor nation.

Just because they wish to make a nuke, does not mean they are a threat. Based on that ASSumption, we should have attacked many nations. We won the cold war by not firing a shot. I think we need to reevaluate the statement of carrying a big stick.

The Great White Fleet of the 1900s was a symble of might and power projection. It was intended to show the nations of the world we can get anywhere at any time to either help you if you ask, or to stop you if you threaten us.

We need to get back to that philosophy. Power projection will still work, cooperation also works, team building and coalation works wonders. Helping nations thru support is much more the solution then threats.

Threats only force people into corners. Threats only cause the other guy to posture more.
Threats only lead to more threats.
Threats destroy diplomacy.
Idle threats are even worse.

Pat, are you ready to kill so many people?
Lets take a step back and stop sabre rattling. Unless you can come up with a truely valid reason to invade another country, you might wanna rethink your position on attacking Iran.

WMD is not a valid reason anymore. Leavearging the countries that are providing them the technologies is a viable alternative. Sanctions on them. Hell, tell us who is supplying them and we shut them out economically.

War should and must be the last resort, and then in self-defense, or defense of a true ally.

Your 15 minutes of fame are over. go sit down and let people with real vision for the world make this next decision.

I can't stand it.

Bushco and l'il Pattycakes playing with their plastic soldiers in the sandbox. That's all I can see when I hear them talk about war. Artur is so right, foreign policy is much more nuanced than McHenry could possibly realize.

Why, oh, why does he have to be from NC, we only just got rid of Jesse.

How about McCain, too?

Singing Bombbombbomb...bombombIran to the Beach Boys tune. Sorry to say it, but WE ARE an aggressor nation. For another 21 months.

War is over if you want it.

just flushed any slim chance he might ever have had to be in charge of anything every again. What a stupid fvck.

bomb Iran?

In all fairness, if you look at the video, it seems to me McCain is more making fun of the guy who asked him a question then stating his own beliefs.
You can make up your own mind by watching the video here.
In any case, I agree it's one more nail in the coffin of McCain's campaign.
Guess he never learned anything from the whole George Allen "macaca" incident.

Left on 49

Cabarrus Democrats

You might be right. . .

I saw it, too. At best, it's irresponsible joking, like Reagan with the joke about bombing Russia while he was President. At worst, it's joking and being serious about bombing people at the same time.

I think jokes like these tell you a little bit about the psyche of GOP leaders. These people, even McCain, a POW for many years, have an outright appetite for war. It's appalling on so many levels. They seem to be so desensitized to people dying, being maimed for life, being taken prisoner and being tortured, etc.

These people are still so drunk with the power they've had for many years---we need to take back the White House and increase our majorities in the Congress, so that we can make this country admirable again, both at home and abroad. And maybe, just maybe, like the Conservatives in Britain, they can find their consciences again and have a civilized debate on helping their citizens. The wilderness time might do them some good.

War is over if you want it.

Hardball - a sad commentary

While slightly off topic, I watched about one minute of this Hardball clip and realized, quickly, why I don't watch TV anymore. Endless interruption, one after the other. Is this what our political discussion has been forced to limit itself too? I'm not sure what I find more grotesque, McHenry (in and of himself) or that we're forced to hear an important debate in O'Reilly style communication. Truly unfortunate.

Off the soapbox and back to work,

Well said.

Yeah, I enjoyed Matthews

interrupting McHenry's disingenuous answers but it was in such contrast to the time he allowed Davis, that the show seemed utterly ridiculous. Of course, in this case, I agreed with Davis and McHenry was just bullshitting.

I can't help being reminded of how much it was the reverse on the very same show when both the war and the president were popular. Better just to boycott these shows . . .

That's right.

Plus we have our very own DQ out there producing her OWN great shows, which are far more relevant and interesting than the blowhards in the MSM.

10th District Congressman Pat McHenry is making our 2008 case...

He is releaving us of the effort to show the insanity brewing in the minds of the Repulicans like him, Walter Jones, Liddy and Burr.
The American people are catching on sooner than the GOP had anticipated.

They are, through their pursuit of dominance via war, making our case for sane Democracy for us.

The GOP is out of control and America sees it. 2008 will be a banner year for NC and for Liberty.

McHenry is out of touch with America and somewhat with reality itself.
