Today is EqualityNC's Lobby Day. Starting at 9am and lasting until 3pm, with a rally and news conference at noon, LGBT North Carolinians and our straight allies will be tackling the members of the North Carolina General Assembly.
From the proposed state constitutional amendment to ban marriage for same-sex couples to employment discrimination and hate crimes, LGBT and allied North Carolinians will have their fair day in Raleigh.
I'm really excited about it and I can't wait. I'm supposed to have appointments with my state representative and senator and, hopefully, I'll get to talk to them. My representative, Dale Folwell (R-74) has signed on as a co-sponsor of H2348, the Defense of Marriage Act (or as I like to call it, the "Let's drum bigotry and discrimination to drum up support for November Act").
I don't know if I will be able to change his mind on the issue of sponsoring and voting for the bill, but I can at least try. North Carolina needs to maintain our rep: We are the only state in the entire Southeast (aka "Dixie") to not have our state legislature or people vote on a constitutional amendment!

If any of you all are around Raleigh, you should stop by and help out or at least come to the rally and news conference.
