Edwards performs best against each of the leading Republicans. In addition to beating Huckabee by 25 percent and McCain by 8 percent, the North Carolina Democrat beats Romney by 22 percentage points (59 percent to 37 percent).

This is some good news to focus on and to stay above the fray of the negative campaigning that will be going on in this last few weeks.

UPdate: Just read this and thought I would add it in, cause of the way it sounds...

Standing outside the “Main Street Express” bus inside the Polk County Convention Center, John Edwards kicked off an 8-day tour of Iowa telling supporters that it’s “crunch time” and urged them to caucus for him on January 3rd.

If you “stand up for me,” Edwards told the union-heavy crowd, “I will stand up for you.”

Edwards told the union-heavy crowd who interrupted the speech with”President Edwards” chants that “it is time for America to rise again.”

”President Edwards”
”President Edwards”
”President Edwards”
”President Edwards”

This poll

is just another reason to support Edwards. A big win by Edwards would lead to significant gains down the ballot, helping Democratic majorities in the Congress and at state-level across the country.

Is it a coincidence that the most progressive Democratic candidate is also the most likely to win? I don't think so.

John has my support and my vote.

He's clearly the best among all our candidates...in my opinion.

Funny polls

Funny, According to this Zogby poll from 3 weeks ago, Barack Obama is the only candidate who decisively beats all the top republicans in an election.
Zogby ran this poll 3 times this year and in all 3 occassions, Obama is the only one who beats ALL republicans. Clinton loses almost always, Edwards has lost in the past and in the latest one wins a few and ties a few others.

I didn't find Zogby that reliable

back in 2004. I followed Zogby b/c of some features at the site and was even on his email list to participate in polls. When my email address was randomly drawn I would be polled on something.

As I commented on your post at the time...

other polls show other things. The polls that I wish they would run again are those "red state" polls. I only saw them a few times, one was Edwards versus Thompson in a slew (15?) red states. He beat Thompson in all 15 red states. But, I'd like to see something comprehensive like that again. Give us an idea about where we stand.

Here it is...

From SurveyUSA
Edwards beats Thompson in 15 of the 16 states polled, including double-digit leads in 8 of 9 red states.

Clinton beats Thompson in 13 of 16 states.

Obama beats Thompson in 11 of 16 states, and ties him in 1 (Ohio).

I'd like to see this repeated every couple months, this is from a long time ago.

Isn't this interesting.

Back in May or so, Survey USA did these polls with Thompson and Giuliani versus the field. Edwards cleaned up in both polls, doing better than Obama or Clinton. So, what did they do? They dropped him from all further polls. Their own polling shows he is the strongest candidate, so they don't poll him any more?

Finding the right poll?

As one who has spent a lot of time mostly on Democratic leaning websites, there seems to be huge inaccuracies in these polls, so I don't have a lot of faith in them. But I do believe Edwards pulls a lot of weight with independents, mainly due to his more 'change' message. As of right now, I expect to support Edwards in the primary. But I think HRC will hold sway with the party in the end, as that's what the 'big money' wants, and the large percentage of voters really follow the media messages.
