It's starting

On August 9, 2006, a brand new 527 - the NC Homeowners Alliance came into existence. And like all Republican Bullshit Organizations (RBO's), the name of this one means exactly the opposite of what it stands for. This particular scam is part of the NC Association of Realtors.

According to people involved in the Puppetshow Smackdown, the NC Homeowners Alliance has their first target in its sight. Rep. Bonner Stiller was attacked last week, relying very much on the Art Pope Puppetmaster Model of Electoral Influence.

But here's the kicker: We the People will not know how many pieces of mail were sent, who contributed to the 527, and how the money is being spent October 15, 2006 - onlyl three weeks before the November 7 election. This is the first date a 527 must file a report before the November 2006 election. A second filing will be due about a week later.

So for another 45 days THERE WILL BE NO INFORMATION available to any politician targeted by this organization. And the media will have no way of reporting on who did what to whom until the dirty deeds are long past done.

Special thanks to Larry Leake and the rest of the State Board of Elections. Idiots.

A copy of the paperwork creating the 527 is attached.

Improve 527 law but please don't eliminate the law

Anglico,

In spite of the example you cite, Republicans would love to eliminate or restrict 527s.

As I remember, the FEC came very close to eliminating 527s before the 2004 election. This would have severely impacted the good guys. As a liberal, I like to put my money behind my candidates, too.

I think 527s

are a fundamental problem, but they're pretty much here to stay. The next issue is how they're funded. In the Land of the Puppetmaster, that funding is done with corporate money, which pretty much trumps any advantage the good guys might have imagined having.

Why are you complaining?

They are trying to take out a Republican and put in his place a pretty liberal Democrat - what is your beef??? Any while you are at it, explain why taking those actions qualifies them as a RBO??

I'm an equal opportunity complainer

when it comes to corporate money in politics. My "beef" is that money representing business interests is like a tsunami when it comes to influencing elections - compared to a pathetic trickle of dollars that comes from individuals. And the vast majority of that money is GOP money.

And as to Dameron being a "pretty liberal Democrat" ... compared to whom? A right wing nut case? Dameron is mostly silent on issues that matter to me, and where he's not silent, he's on the wrong side. He's a realtor. He's in favor of beach renourishment. The home BUILDERS want him because he'll carry their water. He doesn't even claim being a Democrat on his website.

Just saying.

corporations

need to be put in their place.

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.
