Great Jerry

Thanks for letting us know.

I would apply, but I don't live in Raleigh, I don't have great computer tech skills and if I were representing the state party in the blogosphere I wouldn't be able to cuss.....dammit!

Good luck. I can't wait to give this person a hard time. :)

Hmmm.....

wonder what a competitive salary is for this type of position.

Where are the candidates?

should be a fun process

Having the position is a huge step. Having part of the interview process here is a bigger step.

DKos

The DKos post from Jerry/Schorr needs some TLC.

Great! Thanks Jerry!

Seriously, what better way to hire for a position like this than to go straight to the source?

It is this type of out of the box thinking that will bring our continued success in '08.

I too cannot wait to pepper the new gal/guy when they are hired ;)

When you say pepper

it makes me wonder whether part of the idea is to submit applicants to their toughest critics while they still have a chance to walk away. :)

That might not be a bad idea

Awww....we'll be nice. I mean....I never criticize the Party Peoples...no sireebob....not me.

a suggestion or two

Jerry,
Thanks for the question. One suggestion that may or may not be doable is to offer the counties a page (or pages) through the NCDP webpage. Many larger counties may not take you up on that, but those of us in smaller counties probably would. I work with the website in our county, and it tends to be a one-man operation. Perhaps this suggestion is outside the scope of the above job opening, but to offer pages that could be altered in a browser-based program could be a great relief for many counties. It would take the cost of the site off of us, allow us to focus on the content rather than the technical aspects, and help keep us all connected more closely to the state.

I do imagine that each page would need some statement about how the individual pages do not reflect the beliefs of NCDP or something like that. Fortunately, there are probably some lawyers who could help with that.

Great idea about this new position. I wish my technical skills were sharper for it.

Suggestions.

I don't have a name, but here are some thoughts.
1. You need someone who speaks the language of the net, a blogger already, not someone who could BECOME a blogger.
2. You need someone that can crossover into (wow, I burned my hand on a pot and it is killing me) the real world. Who can speak with county chairs, candidates, caucuses, etc.
3. You need someone who can travel to local, state, and national meetings.

How's your hand....put ice on it

Would you take the job if offered? How would that affect you blogging here? How would it affect any of us if we became official bloggers for a candidate or dem organization?

I had to lead a Meetup last night..

with a searing pain in my left hand, luckily not my shaking hand. The skin is all white and bubbly today.

I agree that

#1 is important.
but I think #2 is more important. The job isnt just blogging, its being a conduit between the blogs and the establishement.

Yep.

At the same time, they have people to talk to the establishment (Schorr), they need sommeone with blogger cred, the way the Edwards campaign hired Matthew Gross.

Association of REALTORS

I noticed yesterday that there is a new member of our local board with your exact name (don't know about the middle name). If I were you,I would change my name rather than be confused with a sleazy REALTOR.

REALTOR?

You mean REALTOR®

Yep

You are correct.

Internet Communications (all aspects)

Blogs are a great source of communicating to the the base, or giving story-leads to reporters...but I am not sure how many 'common-joe' democratic volunteers and potential volunteers read blogs, or would read blogs due to limited free time.

I think the key for the position will be someone who knows blogs and website design...but will also be able to be innovative at gaining more contacts and targeting specific email addresses on their issues. (which would be gathered when they sign up for emails or update their data)

I am not aware of the last time a campaign or party has sent out an email to request updated information. They typically like the fact that they have 'x' number of email addresses.

If it is a women's issue, send to all email addresses of females, and those who sign up for on your general email list. If is an event coming up in the eastern part of the state, send to those email addresses, and so on.

Sad to say, but many companies and organization send out too many emails, and the end-user winds up deleting all that come their way.

Blogs are still in their infancy and we are part of their growth

As part of this community, my hope is that blogs like BlueNC become another news source for the "common-joe". More newspapers and television stations have websites and are including blogs. It is our responsibility as sort of pioneers in this medium to encourage and help in defining the rules, don't you think?

I agree, Mo.

Having been involved in online community for more than 10 years, I know that without rules, it becomes little more than high school. It's my firm belief that blog sites should have rules/FAQs clearly posted and be run as transparently as possible.

the Edwards campaign might have someone for you...

Sometimes timing is just the strangest thing, eh?

If the Edwards camp dumps either Amanda or Melissa, it would be amazing if you would offer either of them the position. Doubt they'd want to stick around these parts though, especially with the amount of Edwards love that will likely be coming out of the NCDP.
