The wail of panic coming from the political right in America has reached a fever pitch. The leading voice in this screeching cacophony is none other than our own senator, Elizabeth Dole.
Follow to the flip side..
According to Chron.com, the online site of the Houston Chronicle, Dole is spreading her message of fear at fundraisers claiming the opposition will put the war on terror on the backburner and maybe even impeach the President. Oh! Gasp! Horror of Horrors!
In a fundraising appeal this week, Sen. Elizabeth Dole, R-N.C., asks for immediate financial help "to prevent the most left-wing Democrat Party in history from seizing control of the United States Senate" in the November elections.
According to Chron.com Democrats dismissed the claims as hyperbole. Hyperbole? No, it's more like a great big steaming pile of crap. We will be too busy cleaning up the mess he's made of our country to impeach him.
Of course, what this really boils down to is the dismal job Elizabeth Dole has done in fundraising as chair of the Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee. Chron.com quotes letters that Dole has sent out in an attempt to scare Republicans into giving more cash. Democrats currently enjoy a 2:1 fundraising advantage over the NRSC.
As if the scare tactics mentioned above weren't enough, Dole adds more in her letters.
In the fundraising letter, Dole rails against liberal Democrats in the Senate and warns that if they prevail, "our worst fears" will be realized. She argues that empowered Democrats would "increase your taxes, call for endless investigations, congressional censure and maybe even impeachment of President Bush, put the war on terrorism on the back-burner" and "Take over the White House in 2008!"
She assured the recipients of the fundraising letter that she was working around the clock "to help our country avoid this disaster."
I know Republicans across this great land soiled themselves over the fear and panic spread by Dole's letters and now must feel silly at their overreaction after realizing that Liddy is on the job.
Those of you who follow the news at BlueNC know we were on this story a long time ago, albeit with a different fundraising letter. It's nice to see corporate media is finally catching on.
Josh Marshall is also on the story at Talking Points Memo.
