Happy Retirement Day James

For those of us who have been a part of North Carolina's political blogging scene for more than a few years, James Protzman stands as a leader in the political blogging movement. Long before newspapers paid journalists to blog, James, along with Lance and John, provided a megaphone for the rest of us. Today, we are celebrating his return to full-time blogging.

HA! Just kidding. Today, James's friends and colleagues are gathering to celebrate his retirement from paid work. I make the distinction because blogging is hard work too...we just don't get paid to do it!

James, while you are not retiring from BlueNC, I think it is a great time to take just a minute to thank you for everything you have done to make sure the thousands of voices belonging to registered BlueNC members have a better chance of being heard. Thank you for digging deep and doing research so the rest of us stay informed. Thank you for staying angry when the rest of us are too exhausted, and then lighting a fire under us when break time is over. Thank you for paying the bills to keep the lights on and the hamsters fed.

Finally, thank you for always being ahead of the curve. Over this past year, as other progressive blogs, the news media, and political cartoonists jumped on the Art Pope Puppet Show bandwagon; I took great pleasure in looking at their work and thinking, "Hmmph, that was so nine years ago."

Enjoy your big day!

I love the new site, Betsy.  Just logged in and oh my goodness. So very great.

My "phased retirement" party starts in a couple of hours, and I'm looking forward to seeing friends and family.  As if my providence, I got a call from Sue Counts in Ashe & Watauga, who is running for state senate. She did a good job asking for money and I was happy to deliver.

Sometimes I think I need to keep working so I can afford to give contributions to well-deserving candidates and causes! Who knows, maybe I will!

Thank you so much for doing such a fabulous job getting BlueNC back up.  I know there are a few things left to do, but I sure am loving it.

Thank you, James!

There are some bugs, but none that should keep us from operating normally. I need to address a few issues with the mobile version and will try to take care of things as people find them.

And well-deserved!

Great job, Betsy!

Thanks so much for doing this. I was just telling somebody earlier today about how much information is archived on this site, the thousands of diaries that have been published here. Keeping all that stuff together seems impossible to me. Plus, you know. I hate moving day. ;) Thanks for handling it.

Thank you, Steve!

Almost 25k diaries, 14k taxonomy terms, 150k comments, 4500 registered users.....yeah....it was just a tiiiiiny bit bigger than the last time I upgraded BlueNC.

Vote Democratic! The ass you save may be your own.

Congrats and thanks James!

Congratulations on your retirement! Glad to hear that you'll have one less distraction from blogging/being a leader in saving our state.

Thank you for providing a place where North Carolina comes to think. Offering a forum where many people can be heard is really important and truly makes a difference.
