Guilford GOP Chair Marcus Kindley continues with anti-gay rhetoric
Appearance on morning talk show indicates his lack of regret in comparing gays to pedophiles; NCAC still insists on apology and retraction

Greensboro, NC - On Thursday morning, July 13, 2006, Guilford County Republican Party Chairman Marcus Kindley appeared on 107.5 KZL’s “Murphy in the Morning Show.” During the interview with show host Jack Murphy, Kindley continued his anti-gay rhetoric and showed no indication of regret in comparing gays to pedophiles.

On Monday, July 10, 2006, Kindley stated on his blog, The Chairman’s Corner: “We now say that homosexuality is ok. That is natural. Yes it is as natural as pedophilia.”

Kindley’s blog is linked from the official Guilford GOP site, did not include a disclaimer of being a personal blog until July 12, and is fashioned after the State Republican Party’s website and its “Chairman’s Corner” section for the State Chairman. It is very clear that Kindley’s blog was not intended to be the “personal blog of Marcus Kindley,” but rather the “blog of the Chairman of the Guilford County Republican Party.”

On Tuesday, July 11, 2006, the NC Advocacy Coalition requested an immediate and formal apology and retraction from Marcus Kindley and the Guilford County Republican Party. Kindley has refused to give any apology, although he did arrogantly state on the morning talk show that he would say he was sorry to any person if you read his writings and “offended yourself.” During the show, Kindley also compared the “lifestyle choice” of homosexuality to the choice of being overweight.

Rollin Kibbe is the President of the Triangle chapter of the Log Cabin Republicans and he also appeared on the morning talk show. The Log Cabin Republicans is a group consisting of Republicans who are also gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender. Kibbe stated that he first read Kindley’s anti-gay writings wanting to give him some grace, but based off comments made during the talk show Kibbe stated he was offended and felt as though Kindley does not realize the mistake he made in comparing gays to pedophiles. Kibbe also pointed out that Kindley had later compared homosexuality to being as un-natural as a “fish riding a bicycle.”

At the end of the segment in which Kindley appeared, talk show host Jack Murphy stated, “To compare any gay person to a pedophile is just wrong” and “You can’t insult them for what they are and expect them to want to join the party.”

The North Carolina Advocacy Coalition is now demanding an immediate and official apology and retraction from Mr. Kindley and the Guilford County Republican Party for the harmful and dangerous anti-gay remarks. Kindley’s ignorance and prejudice has been made very clear, a stance for which Kindley seems unapologetic. Kindley must understand that his comments are harmful to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. Fear and scare tactics comparing gays to the repulsive, immoral and illegal perversion of pedophilia and child abuse and exploitation cannot be tolerated in Guilford County or in North Carolina.

The NC Advocacy Coalition will be discussing their next action in this situation today.

The North Carolina Advocacy Coalition is a state-wide political action committee focused on the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their allied supporters. May I make a suggestion

If he was blogging as a Republican officer, might I suggest a DailyKos submission describing what the official GOP stance is on gays in North Carolina? Perhaps with a link to candidates running in that area that could use some money?

Also, perhaps get a friendly newspaper to run a story saying much the same thing? Remember, it is official, right?

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

Mmmm

I don't have much experience with DailyKos... anyone else want to do a post there? Also... there is an article in the Greensboro News & Record this morning, click here to view it.

Also... another update. 365gay.com, a well-known national gay media group, might run a story this afternoon. The LGBT Community Center of the Catawba Valley also released a statement this afternoon, click here to view it.

I got some time

I'll jump on a Kos diary.
I'll use your story as a reference and the hotlinks as well.
Be just, and fear not.

Our children need to know that some people fought back, when others collaborated.

OKay its up there

I hope it works! dKos Diary

Wonder If He's Seen This List

Of Link TextRepublican Pedophiles and other criminals....?

Well, that's not "pretty" but at least i got the link on it....I'll keep trying and will get it ... one day!

Unfortunately GOP hatred is

Unfortunately GOP hatred is not limited to Guilford Cuonty. If you check the Durham GOP website and do a search for "poetry," you will find some of the most vile comments you will see on a website.... the poetry refers to us as both "homocrats" and "lesbocrats" and goes from there.

I say the same thing to the Durham Democratic party...

that I said to Guilford County. They need ads comparing this to the klan. Plain and simple. There is a population in this country that is immoral and needs to hate, it used to find a home in the Democratic Party, then the Dixiecrats, now the Republican Party.

Well...

If people would donate to NCAC, maybe we could afford ads... or direct mailings... or something. We've only gotten in $615 so far. Money controls what we can do, sadly. :(
