Draft Heath Shuler

North Carolina has a Chance to get a Real North Carolinian Elected to the Senate:

This is the inaugural post on the Draft Shuler blog. Rep. Shuler possesses all the abilities and attributes North Carolina needs to regain our Senate seat from a Kansan.

This blog serves one purpose, to convince Heath Shuler to run for the Senate. After a victory over 16 year House veteran Charles Taylor, Heath Shuler can once again achieve another victory. This time over Elizabeth Dole.

Let's rise together and send a message. We want a candidate who represents North Carolina and we want a candidate who can win. Shuler is right for North Carolina.

As a member of the Blue Dog Caucus, Shuler is fighting to return fiscal responsibility to Congress. Shuler helped return the idea of PAYGO to the budget and is fighting for accountability and transparency in government.

Heath is right for the American worker. He is an advocate for raising the minimum wage. He is helping lead the fight against unfair trade agreements, which have lead to thousands of Americans losing their jobs.

As an outdoorsman, Heath understands the importance of environmental stewardship. He has fought the Bush administration's plan to sell thousands of acres of National Forest land to the highest bidder. He is working to combat global warming; and he is a supporter of renewable energy. He understands the needs to remove America's dependence on foreign petroleum.

Now is the time, contact Heath Shuler and let him know that he is right for North Carolina and right for America.

A Succinct Response

I disagree morally and completely.

I always wanted to be the avenging cowboy hero—that lone voice in the wilderness, fighting corruption and evil wherever I found it, and standing for freedom, truth and justice. - Bill Hicks

Strategically

It's the best choice, next to Mike Easley and he sure isn't going to run.

Don't Get Me Wrong...

...I think Heath Shuler would make a great candidate for a statewide run, but I'm not sure he wants to run for a higher office. Maybe a few more years in Congress will stoke his ambitions.

There are people in every time and every land who want to stop history in its tracks. They fear the future, mistrust the present, and invoke the security of the comfortable past which, in fact, never existed. - Robert F. Kennedy

I am not sure he really is a

I am not sure he really is a Dem candidate and who then runs for his house seat?

Heath Shuler could run as a Republican

maybe, but his pandering to the right by using "Democrat" as an adjective has me doubting Heath as a viable Dem candidate. He's either pandering or polishing his "dumb jock" image.

Many Draft Choices for Heath Shuler?

1. Already the number one draft choice by Art Pope and the Red State Neo-Cons 21 st Century Club.

2. Drafted by the Army when we totaly run out of people and bodies to serve in Iraq!

3. Drafted by the Navy when we run out Nukes to blow away Iran. He will be in the first wave of Seals to hit the beachs and the sand dunes of Iran.

4. Drafted by the Washington Redskins again and traded off to the Carolina Reds of NASCAR.

5. Drafted by the Republican party in case of a Ringer being put in a Democrat primary against him.

6. Drafted by the Religious Conservative Right to fight the Devil on Black Mountain with highly up to date techical snake handlers.

7. Drafted by the Lumberton Indian Tribe of Eastern North Carolina so they can tar and feather him for protecting the Casios of a Western North Carolina Indian Tribe, known as the Jack Abramsoff Nation West.

Let him find his feet

Shuler's still trying to figure out who to be and how to work things in D.C. Why don't you ask us again in 2010 when Burr's seat comes up?

I'm behind Brad Miller for Liddy's seat.

Scrutiny Hooligans - http://www.scrutinyhooligans.us

At this point

I don't think anyone has a chance of beating Burr.

seriously?

until people realized she was up for reelection Dole's approval ratings were consistently 10-15 points above Burr.

He will be harder to beat if we let Dole get a free pass, and he wont be an easy win, but he is going down.

Draft Brad Miller-- NC Sen ActBlue

"Keep the Faith"

That was pre-OLF

In which burr came out looking like a Saint and Dole came out looking like Satan.

hahahahaha

was that sainthood when he said it wasnt his job or when Easley had to go to other Senators for help?

We'll fix that.

After six years as a Rubber Stamping Bushbot, his legs won't be long enough to run away from his record.

And I'll do my damnedest

to make sure he can't run away from it.

I would love for that to happen

But Moore needs more to rest his cap on that the Duke Lacrosse case and cracking down on sexual predators.

What?

Don't bring Treasurer of the Year Richard Moore into this. They were speaking about Cooper.

Draft Shuler Blog???

You say this is the inaugural post at the Draft Shuler blog. Is this the Draft Shuler blog, or is there an outside site? If so, what is that site's URL?

Scrutiny Hooligans - http://www.scrutinyhooligans.us

It's a cross post

From my Shuler blog

Are you going to share the URL for your blog?

As far as I'm concerned, I would not support Shuler as a candidate for Senate. He has virtually no experience in government, and does not hold the values that I would like to see in the Senate.

In Congress, he is a (D) placeholder who not only allowed us to have the historic first Madame Speaker, but gave Democrats like Leahy and Shumer the power to subpeona people like Monica Goodling, etc. We've only begun to scratch the surface on the malfeasance and misanthropy that is the Bush Administration.

I would much rather see a more experienced, more nuanced, and more progressive leader take Dole on (and win!) in 2008.

I thought I had included it

Draft Shuler

Other than his one Iraq vote and stem cells, where do you disagree?

Thought I had stated why I wouldn't support him.

1. He has virtually no experience in government

, and

2.does not hold the values that I would like to see in the Senate.

The Iraq vote would be enough, by the way.

But since you ask:

He votes against the Lumbee Tribe, an issue that is very close to my heart

He voted against giving federal assistance to states to prosecute hate crimes.

He voted against Improving Head Start - can't get more important than that to me, unless it's the Iraq War.

He has voted against the Democratic Majority enough times (almost 14% of the time, according to the Washington Post) that I don't believe he shares my values. I would not support him unless there was no other Democrat running. And I would actively look for another Democrat to support until the very last minute.

Those are the biggies. I'm with him on energy, environment, labor, and small business.

Still waiting to see about Defense spending, tax cuts for the rich, estate tax, health care, education, welfare, housing.
