Doug Clark Wacks Blue NC and Calls Neal a Ego Sissy in Debate

Easley's words didn't come out right
BlueNC is all upset about Mike Easley using a "gay slur" to praise Hillary Clinton.

Who could beat Dole and who couldn't
I didn't attend last night's debate among four Democrats running for U.S. Senate, but I was very surprised to read that Jim Neal said he's the only one who could beat Republican Elizabeth Dole.

Kay Hagan, in contrast, said she thought any Democrat would have a good chance of defeating the incumbent.

Maybe Hagan doesn't actually believe that. I don't. As we said in our endorsement of Hagan Sunday, she's the only Democrat who can give Dole a credible challenge, let alone unseat her.

But, for the sake of Democratic esprit de corps, it was wise for Hagan to say her party rivals might be able to knock off Dole, too. It makes the point that Dole's record is so poor that she's on shaky ground with voters no matter who her opponent turns out to be after May 6.

Neal, on the other hand, just conceded a Dole victory in November should he not earn his party's nomination.

Aww, come on, Doug

It baffles me why supposedly bright MSM guys can't figure out that BlueNC is not something that can or does get upset.

BlueNC is a website that thousands of people visit. Which means there are thousands of differing opinions on every subject you can imagine.

You'd think Mr. Clark would have figured that out by now.

I have no idea where you got that Doug is the brightest lightbulb in the mainstream media, since he burns out all the time on major issues. Doug has bigger problems. His paper is for sale big time and Landmark Corporation will do anything to unload that non-profit sucker like most mainstream corporations in this downward recession. Hell! If we wait a few more months, we will bid on the sucker at firesale rates and put Doug to work on the help wanted BlueNC online section. Now that I think of it! Art Pope will buy sucker thinking he has total control of North Carolina politics.

Getting a thumbs-up from Doug

is not what I consider a "resounding success" for Kay. ;o

It actually raises more questions than it answers. Hmmm. I might need to work on this a little bit...

Doug Clark?

Is that Doug Clark and the Hot Nuts Doug Clark?

If it's not that Doug Clark, I never heard of him. Who is he?

Dear Doug.

BlueNC is not all upset. BlueNC, as was pointed out by James, is a website, cannot be upset.

I am upset. Still. My name is Linda. I am a human being. I voted for Mike Easley twice, because the North Carolina Democratic party did not present me with any other viable alternatives. He has been, in my opinion, a fiasco as a governor, and used a word that I made very clear last night disappointed in a "leader". It shouldn't surprise me - he's made a mess of our mental health system; he wasn't satisfied with an early childhood system ready and able to expand - he had to create a legacy for himself and develop a parallel infrastructure and sacrifice hundreds of thousands of administrative dollars on the altar of his own ego in order to have his own program instead of building on what Jim Hunt had already built.

Thankfully, I'm not being presented with the dilemma of having to choose to vote for Easley again. And I know better than to vote for anyone he endorses.

Sincerely,

Linda

Dear Justin,

No. It would turn into a mob and run over our favorite conservatives who profess to look like silly-ass P.J. O'Rourke who hasn't had a good haircut in years.

Love, Linda.

Wow, you're really cute stuff!

Love those blond curls.

that that is one absolutely beautiful child you got there. Now don't go messing him up with your danged pompous-ass conservative politics, ya hear?

What a pompous Republican ass.

I just made plans to go see Iron Man tonight with some friends. Does that mean I'm a conservative? And, I've already seen the new Hulk trailer that came out today. You?

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

No no no, this thread started

with a comment about a conservative columnist/blogger who claimed he (also) had no idea that "pansy" is (more often than not) a gay slur, until he looked it up in the dictionary.

Proving once again that it is extremely difficult to catch a greased Doug.

"Right! I'll do you for that!"

The Black Knight is my hero.

I totally didn't get the Hulk reference!

And yeah, you do rank as one of my favorites. PJ, on the other hand, does not. :) And your offspring, which is who I assume is sitting upon your shoulders, is absolutely adorable. Watch out - he's destined to be a Democrat to die for. :-D

See, Robert, that demostrates my point

See, see, Linda, didn't get the Hulk reference. That demonstrates my point. I'm sure if one refers to All Things Considered at Ogre's Place without proper references they would be even more confused.

As for Palmer, parents always find a way to love their kids - regardless of their Party affiliation...I guess. There is more of a chance he could go blue given family demographics...GOP is minority in my family. Based on headcount: Southern Dem, Liberal Dem, Lazy Non-Voter, Right-of-Attila-the-Hun Unaffiliated, "I'm not going to register because the IRS will figure out where I live" and then GOP.

However, we're working on Voter ID really early with Palmer's little bro - Paxton

Hey Linda, did you notice ...

In the comments section on Doug's blog, he professed to not know that pansy was a bad word for homosexuals. Now how could a man who makes his living at writing not know this? Not only that, but several of the other posters on Doug's blog also claimed to not know this. Apparently bigots are everywhere!

Hey teepack,

Did you notice that you're still wrong? Whether you, Doug, and Mike E. the Ignorant Governor wants to believe it or not, it's still a derogatory term.

Have you ever taught school, teepack?

Just curious

What am I wrong about?

I hate to even get in this debate....

but a very close friend had no idea it was a derogatory remark, and they have gay family members.

I think this is one of those things you grow up saying without realizing what it means until one day the light goes on in your head and you're like "Oh. My. God. I can't believe I said that all those years." People here just see that light a little earlier, which is why they are here.

Be careful, Robert

Next thing you know, you'll get lumped in with us "bigots" who admit to not knowing that pansy was used as a derogatory term for homosexuals.

:)

Robert - I am really sensitive to this.

If you haven't noticed :) It's important to me that people understand that the words we use matter. They matter. Teepack can giggle all he (I'm assuming by the braggadocio that teepack is a he)about "pansy" just meaning wimp and how silly I'm being, but each time something like that is said, it can take a piece of a person's selfhood away.

So I'm really sorry I've been so humorless about this. I've been really bitchy about it. I probably will continue to be. So - I apologize for that. I can't help it.

I'm not giggling

Linda,

I understand all about how words matter. The point I'm trying to make is that the only thing I am guilty of is not knowing pansy = homosexual slur. You jumped all over me and anybody else who expressed the same lack of knowledge (and there were many of us) and essentially accused of us gay-bashing and/or lying about not knowing.

If any good has come out of all of this discussion, it's that now many more people are educated about this additional meaning of pansy and will (hopefully) be less likely to use it in the future.

I'm all for getting educated about issues. That's why I come to sites like this one. But I don't like people making wrong assumptions about me (especially people who have never met me) or denigrating me simply because I express an alternate opinion.

I've known Doug Clark pretty much my entire life

He and I attended the same Church in High Point while I was growing up. He gave me my first and only newspaper job. His sons are among my sister's best friends. He's a fine man.

He's often wrong, but he's usually thoughtful in a way that John Hood, Mr. Predictable, is not.

"Hampton Dellinger WILL be a great Lieutenant Governor." - Al Gore.

"Man is free at the moment he wishes to be." -Voltaire

So? He still didn't get it.

Maybe the next time you see him, you ought to give him a copy of a dictionary. From 1929.
