Brad Miller to Continue doing great things in the US House

Brad Miller has announced that he plans to continue serving the people of North Carolina's 13th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives.

We're behind you all the way, Congressman.

I don't think Rob Christensen is "insider" enough

to have received this news first.

BlueNC got it first....well...first after family, key supporters/bloggers, etc.....so technically we weren't fiiiiiirst.

I think Christensen was just 'speculating' ...

and didn't know squat... But none the less, I think this is good on Brad's part. I think he has the opportunity to 'make a name' for himself in the House (if he choses to do so) and actually do something that will have an impact for the better. Doing the peoples business is what voters want and doing so builds clout. To me, the Senate gets too wrapped up in itself and spends too much time trying to LOOK like they're doing something rather than ACTUALLY doing something.

To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only UNPATRIOTIC and servile, but it is morally treasonable to the American public.

Politicians are like diapers. They should be changed frequently, and for the same reasons.

My confession...

A couple of week's ago, BlueNCer Unique guessed where I was going with Howl Qaeda and predicted a showdown between Brad Miller and Dole with some shenanigans from Vernon Robinson. I found out earlier that Miller was going to seek the House again and thus today's strip was "Help Us Al Gore" not "Help Us Brad Miller."

The strip that ran on the 18th has Miller in silhouette with his haircut. I will need to go back and change that to reflect Gore.

Regardless of what Miller wants to do, he still has my support. Go Brad. GO!

I have to say -

Since I live in the 6th district, and not the 13th, I'm disappointed I won't have a chance to vote for Brad Miller. But I am still going to use him as my congressman. Because Coble.....NOT.

And I will continue to financially support Miller's reelection effort. This is a man who belongs in congress. Thanks for everything you do, Congressman Miller.

There's always some hope

There's always some hope that Coble will retire... and some hope that someone like Kay Hagan will mount a strong challenge in the 6th.

But yes, I'm rather disappointed, but I can understand Miller's decision. I still wish someone could persuade Richard Moore to avoid that costly gubernatorial primary in favor of kicking our very senior Senator out.

For the last time

Moore has a ton of money that can't be transferred to a federal race. And he might have outraised Bev this quarter.

I am disappointed

that I won't get to vote for Brad in 2008. I am glad that he has made his decision and would have supported him either way. Brad's doing a fine job in the House.

Unfortunately, this gives Liddy's handlers another chance to trumpet that the Democrats can't find anyone to challenge our "senior" Senator.

So who is it going to be?

Heath

My choice---

Sorry to see that he's not

going to run, but I'm glad he'll continue to do great things in the House.

I'm curious, why is Dennis Wicker's name never bandied about when people discuss potential challengers to Cruella? Has he ruled out running for office since he started rainmaking for his law firm?

That's him.

I think he heads up the government affairs group at Helms Mulliss now. If memory serves, he was expected to win the Dem nomination for governor in 2000. My recollection is that it was a surprise that Easley beat him (although this could be completely wrong, I was young(er) and dumb(er) and not really paying attention to politics then).

Is the 2000 loss tainting any return to elected office? Does he just not want to run for anything?

Dunno if you saw him in debates, but...

He was absolutely a terrible campaigner. Everything that came out of his mouth in debates and on the stump sounded ridiculously rehearsed.

Not a bad guy by any means, but not cut out for the big leagues. Easley won because in any public appearance, he always sounded better thinking on his feet. Someone was trying to turn Wicker into Clinton II, with really ugly results.

I don't think he can recover it.

Wow

That makes me feel very old -- and very sad for Dennis Wicker.

And no, I don't think he'll be running for anything anytime soon.

Bev!

Seriously. She's really that tightly locked into the governor's race? No one could tempt her to switch?

Heh

Well, she hasn't *officially* announced, but yeah, she's locked in. And my money's on her to win (no offense to the Moore partisans 'round these parts).

Elaine!

She would be awesome!

I'm all for Elaine

Elaine

I've supported Elaine Marshall for U.S. Senate before. I'd love to see her go for it again.

Hey everybody

I havent checked in yet, I have been extremely busy in Minnesota.

I will do a long "post-no" diary in a few days when I get the time to write, but I want to quickly say Thank You to Brad for listening to us, and for treating all of us with immense respect.

When the N & O called me I said the honest thing, which was in all of this I was the most surprised when Brad said he was considering running. When we started in January this was a long shot idea, where I had to convince even most of you, let alone Brad.

We did a hell of a lot, and from now on Brad will be just that little bit more important, BlueNC will be just that little bit more influential, and Dole will be that little bit more vulnerable.

Like I said, I will post much more, but let me end with what Brad ended his email to me with.

Keep the Faith

"Keep the Faith"

Domino Effect

Elaine Marshall is certainly qualified, well liked, respected and certainy has positive statewide name i.d. As for running against old old whistle britches, I predict she'd probably tromp her.

But in recruiting her, I must pose to you all these questions:

Who then would run for NC Secretary of State?

Is she in the same election funds tranfer quandary as Moore?

Would Moore consider, if Elaine runs against Dole, run for Secretary of State?

Wayne Goodwin is strongly considering running for the Secretary of Labor post. Would he be a good choice for Secretary of State if Elaine does in fact run for U.S. Senate? I think so, but that leaves open the question of who would and could run against Cherie?

Dominoes – more than just pizza.

One question at a time......

I think I know the answer to one and that is the money question. I don't believe any current balance of campaign funds could be transferred to an account for federal office.

Moore and Perdue

are both running for governor. Case closed.

Sorry Betsy. If it's any

Sorry Betsy. If it's any consolation, I find it helpful to use my wipe-off board whenever issues and/or problems include domino effects.

But as for the money, I feel comfortable in saying that someone of Elaine's stature could raise it. That alone would scare the heck out of Dole and I'm not so sure how she (Dole) would handle it - probably get flustered (i.e., emotional) which is always fatal for a candidate.
