BlueNC WoW - Open Thread 5/9

Welcome to BlueNC Women on Wednesdays. We have a few posts going up throughout the day, so pull up a chair and lets chat.

LCloud is traveling and might not be with us. She has business in other parts of the state, but we hope she'll find a few minutes to stop in later.

Lovex7 is on her way to Washington this very minute. She has important work up there keeping a certain congressman in line. Actually, she will be attending a luncheon with the first lady. I'm sure it is only that fine genteel breeding that will keep Love from telling Laura what she really thinks of Dubya. Oh, but wouldn't I love to be a fly on the wall if she happened to let something slip!

Unique is putting in her vegetable garden and will maybe share some thoughts with us later in the day.

If you're new to BlueNC, welcome. Please feel free to post throughout the day and to chat in the threads. We don't have hard and fast rules about staying on topic, but we encourage it. Open threads are scattered about and you can follow added comments by clicking on the "track changes" tab in the top right corner of the site.

Any BlueNC women who would like to join the BlueNC WoW group, please let me know. We plan to continue encouraging women to join the fray and hope that a day where our front page is dedicated to our female writers will bring more voices to our community.

Again, welcome and thank you.

Congratulations Blue South!

Final tests/grades are posted. Congrats on finishing college. I know you'll land a job with a great campaign. Those candidates had better start getting their offers in. I know how smart you are and how hard you work - they can't pay you enough.

I don't think he's reading it right...

"they CAN'T pay you enough" not "they can't pay you ENOUGH"

"Keep the Faith"

Talking to people about the "War" (

most in this very RED part of NC think we need to stay and fight till we "Win". I ask them what is their definition of winning? They can't tell me, they just think we need to kill all the people that are fighting against us. When I tell them that most of them are Iraqi, they just say, "Well we need to kill them all!" How sad that we went in to save them from a dictator and now the uninformed feel we need to kill the very people we went in to save.

If we kill all the Iraqis,

who will live in Iraq?

Coble Loves Wolfowitz

From the blog, Petulant Rumblings

Even though Rep. Howard Coble (R-NC, 6th district) has no hard facts, he wants to express his adoration of Wolfowitz and he hopes that the World Bank gives him a second chance even though Wolfie lied about Iraq and gave his girlfriend a high paying job. Rep. Coble thinks Wolfie deserves to keep his job and put on a “short, tighter leash.” Coble believes that Wolfowitz’s contributions to society are more important than these “mistakes.”

Insane

Republicans are insane. Let an incompetent fool keep his job as long as he's on a short, tight leash? WTF? Who's going to be holding the damn leash? George the Moron? That's reassuring.

Not.

Just proves that Coble needs to GO!

He's gotten a lot of attention because he has told bush that he's not doing a good job in Iraq, but he still toes the Repug line!

I did a little figuring last week, preparing to write an article

but work exploded, and now I'm huddled in a hotel room, avoiding death by workshop. But according to the numbers I figured based on his votes between the beginning of the 110th Congress in January and the first week of May, Coble has voted the way I would want him to only 7% of the time. I used the Washington Post's database of votes to get percentage - he voted with the (R) opinion 93% of the time. It's really time for him to go. Really.

Need HELP!

I have been trying to remove my "post" picture since winter has passed and it's time for a new one. The system won't let me. I keep deleting the picture and uploading a new one, but when I push "enter" the old pic is still there. Can someone hold my hand?

Progressive Discussions

First just try deleting the picture

Don't add a new one.

Deleted pic

that took, went into track changes and looked at my comments, the pic was gone. So went back to add a new one and the old one came back. So I deleted it again. Are we able to change or once you put up a pic that's it?

I've seen pics change

it might have something to do with the "cache" . . . whatever that is.

Sounds like a job for Sir Lance-A-Lot.

I had this happen. Try going to that page, making sure

it is deleted. Hit F5, then refresh the page and upload your image.

Thanks Robert

I tried a couple of times. The old pic was gone but every time I tried uploading the new pic, the old one appears...:(

From the Dome

U.S. Secretary of the Navy Donald Winter has told members of Congress he is willing to consider alternative locations for the field. It would serve as a practice landing strip for fighter jets from Oceana Naval Air Base in Virginia and Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point.

Isn't that precious? A military man in the United States of America who is "willing" to consider that Congress might just have a little eentsie bit of say in what the Navy does? Will wonders never cease.

I guess Winter has spent too much time talking to Dick Burr, who famously said

"I don't think it's a member of Congress' role to tell the Navy where or where not to place something."

What a couple of idiots.

When will it end?

House Democrats plan to vote as soon as tomorrow on an Iraq war spending proposal that pays for military operations through late July.

President Bush would veto a bill drafted by House Democratic leaders that would fund the Iraq war only into the summer months, his spokesman said Wednesday.

Liddy Dole - Mothers Day

Can I get some help finding examples of ways Liddy has hurt mothers? I know she has voted repeatedly to cut Medicaid and WIC. Have their been any votes on maternity leave? Other issues? Maybe "Mother Earth?"

Not sure

but FMLA affects a lot of people. I don't know what her opinion on that matter is, however.

Here's a clue

Project Vote Smart lists ratings of elected officials by various interest groups.

A sampling of Liddy's reviews:

Abortion Issues:
2006 Senator Dole supported the interests of the Planned Parenthood 0 percent in 2006.

Family and Children Issues:
2005 Senator Dole supported the interests of the Children's Defense Fund 0 percent in 2005.

Gender Issues:
2005-2006 Senator Dole supported the interests of the American Association of University Women 10 percent in 2005-2006.

Any questions?

do a diary every week between now and the election on various aspects of her record from that page. Its ugly.
