Are we excited yet?

I don't know about you, but I'm getting excited about sitting around and chatting with Ambassador Joe Wilson tonight. The excitement started to build when Karen Shugart's cover story on Ambassador Wilson was published in Creative Loafing.

One of my favorite quotes from Wilson in the article is in response to the right's popular assertion that Wilson is a far left liberal.

Well, first of all, I describe myself as American before I'd describe myself as a member of a particular party. And secondly, to those critics who try to paint me as leftist, I'd like to remind them it was George Herbert Walker Bush who made me Ambassador to two African countries and for whom I served as the acting ambassador to Baghdad. I was actually also invited to be a founding member of Ambassadors for Bush before the 2000 election. So any political evolution towards the center or any political evolution whatsoever is as much a consequence of the truly horrid management of the American nation by this particular administration.

If you've read his book you know that Joe Wilson comes from a long line of Republicans, though I didn't get the impression that he was terribly partisan. He couldn't be in his line of work.

When you serve in the diplomatic service you serve the United States, and you serve the Constitution of the United States. You're not typically involved in politics. The Hatch Act prevents a lot of political behavior for people who are actually on the federal government's payroll at that time. Now that I'm no longer on the payroll, it's an honor to be invited to participate more fully in the election of our leaders.

I'm planning to post my questions for Ambassador Wilson later today. I don't think there will be time for me to ask him any tonight, but I'll give it a shot anyway.

After that great article in Creative Loafing, I wasn't sure we'd read anything in the CharO, so I was pleasantly surprised to read this in today's paper. Jim Morrill gave the event a plug.

In the same section was another brief post that caught my eye. Remember those, "Larry Kissell is MY Congressman" bumper stickers that Lance created last year after the heartbreaking loss? They're finally getting attention.

David Ingram saw one in Raleigh. Yes, that's outside the district. The sticker was on a car with Indiana plates. That would be just a bit further out of the district and some of you might wonder why someone from Indiana would be sporting a Larry Kissell bumper sticker.

It's really quite simple. I've heard more than once folks here say they wish Kissell was running in their district. Honesty, humility and integrity are characteristics that appeal to people all over the country. Democrats in red distsricts in every state would love to see a Larry Kissell running in their district.

I say it's time to bring back those bumper stickers. There's got to be a way to use them to jump start a campaign to recruit more Larry Kissells for red districts. Any ideas?

Happy Birthday!

My son turns 18 on Monday. We're celebrating this weekend, so I'll be hanging out with him and his friends (well, I'll be within earshot, anyway) tonight, and celebrating with family tomorrow.

Old/Older

It's okay if you get older. Just don't get old.

I'm doing the same thing tonight, but my BD was Thursday. It's a surprise party. hehe

Lovex7

Happy Birthday, James. :)

I wish you could have been there, too. Joe Wilson was an incredibly powerful speaker (so was Larry), and reinforced my opinion of how important the election next year is.

We had a great turnout for BlueNC, and some pics should be on the way soon.

A night to remember!

I have always been a very lucky girl, in the right place and right time...windows opening when doors close. Yada, yada. Tonight was another one of those right times. My lucky GPS got me to 100 N Tryon and I still had to find a parking space, made a few turns around the block and parked.

Then I walked very quickly to the corner where my GPS told me that I had "arrived at my destination", but which building was it? So I started to look at the faces in the crowd to see who looks like they might know, when who walks up? Ambassador Joseph Wilson! After being pointed to the right building he told me to let them know he'd be right over.

The crowd was light when I first arrived, but the room filled up quickly. I met so many BlueNCers there and was proud to be able to claim the association. Others have said in the past that Sam is tall, yes sir-ree bob, that is a fact! Got to meet Marshall Adame, scharrison, working for change, our beloved Betsy, LeslieH, and LiberalNC. That along with getting to hear Larry and Joe speak. Man, what a night. Well worth the 2 and 1/2 hour drive there a back again!

Here are a FEW of the pics I took tonight...

Group shot of the BlueNC bloggers with Larry and Joe. I also asked the wives to get in the pics since thje spouses are the ones that have to live with our habit. To the far right is Ross Overby who is running against Sue Myrick, hope to hear more about him in the future.

It has taken me almost a year to get the BlueNC sign in the same place as Larry Kissell so he could sign it.

Both Larry and Amb. Wilson were surrounded all night. I just kept clicking away!

After Amb. Wilson signed my book, both Betsy and I got to have our pics taken with him. He is a powerful speaker and his book isn't too bad either!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Wouldn't this make a good Christmas Card? (heh)

My Joe Wilson picture is terrible :(

Luckily that BlueNC picture captures my height.

Well, last time I checked, I weigh about 360 ...

Identify the BlueNCers!

Too bad we can't "tag" them the way we can on Facebook.

I'm glad you all had a good time - I was at a bowling alley with teenagers, trying to be invisible so I didn't interfere, and yet running interference so no one tried to buy beer. Joy.

Almost forgot

Happy, happy birthday James, wish you could have joined us. Although you don't like crowds, you would have loved this gathering.

Another belated Happy Birthday to Lovex7, you would have loved meeting Amb. Wilson, what a genuine patriot he is.

But his chosen user name on the web place he frequents is "Geekiskhan."

Special thanks to Mo for capturing my xmas card cover photo!
