The 8th District is Winning (So Far)

If the elections for Congress were being held today, which candidate would you vote for- the Democrat, Larry Kissell, or the Republican, Robin Hayes?

Kissell ................ 40%
Hayes .................. 32%
Undecided .............. 28%

Complete results, including questions asked, are here. This is great news, but there's only one poll that matters. Let's stay focused on November.

Looks ok to me

What are you seeing?

It is fixed now..

But it had the blockquote running all the way down the page.

Thanks!

Shaky poll

If I'm going to take John Locke Foundation to the woodshed on polling, I have to do it here to. The only saving grace with this report is that this company fully qualifies the reliability of its research up front, basically saying "don't trust these data."

Of particular concern is the ordering effect of questions at the end, where the survey calls Hayes a liar right before asking whether the respondent would vote for him.

The truth, of course, is that Hayes IS a liar - and I wish every darn voter in NC8 could get surveyed so they'd learn that fact.

As Lance says, the only poll that matters is the one on November 7. And given that 32% of respondents said they'd lean toward Flip Floppin' Robin, it looks like we have a lot of educatin' to do.

I would love to embrace this poll-

but we all know that if we word questions in a slanted way, we can get any resluts that we desire. Having said that- this does show that Hayes is vulberable and that CAFTA is the issue to help bring this district home!

There was a question about Hayes

before the question that mentioned Hayes' flip-flop on CAFTA. The first question asked whether 8thers would be more likely to vote for Hayes or someone else. The results were Vote for Hayes: 28%; Someone new: 49%; Undecided: 23%.

That, to me, is the more encouraging news (thought I thought the Kissell question made a better teaser). Hayes is going to need just about every one of those who are now undecided to win this poll sample.

Push polls serve a purpose

The Republicans are masters at this type of poll. I'd be upset if they accused hayes of mass murder or child molestation, but to imply he's guilty of something he's actually guilty of....doesn't bother me one little bit. It's about time we fought fire with fire. I'm sick of bringing a knife to a gun fight....

I really don't think that this is "one of those"

by which I mean a push poll. A push poll question—as you allude to SD—would be something like "would you be more or less likely to vote for X if someone told you that she's really a flesh-eating reptile from the planet Zarxon?" I think it's a legitimate goal of a poll to find out how voter education on the topic of one of Hayes' biggest boo-boos will influence voters.

In other words, the goal of the question is to find out whether Hayes is vulnerable on that point and to gauge how much.

Nope it isn't

I hadn't read it...just assumed it was from above comment. It's a push poll, but not like the Republicans do them.

I wonder why they released this on a friday?

It will be buried over the weekend and will not be news by Monday. I hope someone picks it up, but I'm not hopeful. You dump news you want to hide on a friday.....not news like this.

I don't care

I don't care what kind of poll it is. These numbers ought to get flashed in Robin's face every day until he pays $40,000 to commission another poll.

To me, it's like we've all realized for some time - We're winning. On the national stage, Democrats acted like we were losing long after Bush's numbers fell under 50%. But we're winning, and we need to act like it.

This was an independent poll

The Kissell campaign did not commission this poll. That's even better news.
