from one of my very favorite things (besides politics) - live music. We try to find some live music every weekend - even if it's just in our living room. Tonight, we went to experience the Foo Fighters. As I watched people fumble with cameras and cell phones, trying to get a good picture of Dave Grohl take a stroll through the crowd, I realized that having a picture of the moment wasn't as important to me as knowing that I was about 10 feet from one of the musicians I've loved for a long, long time. For the rest of the concert, I sat down, closed my eyes, and just let the music wash over me. Just being in the music. It was a little piece of perfection.
I hope you all find little pieces of perfection in your lives this weekend; they make it easier to deal with all the other imperfections that come our way.

There had been rumors about someone in Chapel Hill running, but I out of the loop here and didn't know it would be Neal. There are also rumors of a major in the Army Reserves running too . . . we'll know soon.

As a back-sliding Baptist, I'm always on the look-out for interesting religious commentary and Replicant hypocrisy. This bit about John McCain's pandering to the religious right (from Kos) caught my eye this morning.

Thanks for the laugh! But seriously ... maybe Senator McCain and his new pals would like to make themselves useful and pray up some rain for NC?? ~100 days of water left in our reservoirs. Ack!! So, if McCain's new buddies are taking orders, here's my letter ...
Dear God:
Please send about a half dozen category 1-2 hurricanes with nice soaking inland rains now through early December.
Thanks, much!

P.S. Ignore the people praying for sunny days for weddings, picnics, bike rides, fishing trips, birthdays and vacations. They've had their share this year, dang it!!
"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."
some years ago (I can't recall the name) who said that there are two types of republicans - the God is god group, and the money is God faction. Seems like he had it about right.
Very cute pic. :) And awesome movie!!!! ... Cars, I mean. Loved it.
Hope ya found yer happy place!! :)

If there were to be single payer we don't need to talk about new funding at all. The money we are already spending ($2.34 Trillion) is re-directed to the health care financing trust, and all of the savings a recent blogger points out would reduce everyone's cost. You only need to talk about new costs if you let insurance companies continue.
Somone here or on Daily Kos was calculating the savings and expenditures if we switch to single payer.
It was an impressive effort to calculate what we currently spend on health, care, insurance, the whole thing.
But--- it was unclear to me if he or she realizes that the stuff we currently spend would no longer be needed, it would be substituted by direct payments to providers by the single payer.
Very complex and very ambitious.
IF you are the writer of that blog, or if you can point me to it,,I can not find it to reread it.
that he was from there,or had lived there, why did you know him? He is much despised in The Pilot Newspaper published in Moore (very, very red) County. As noted before, humor is a very powerful political weapon.
No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.
10. Max is famous! The AMA named Maxillofacial Surgery after Max when they unsuccessfully tried to remove Max’s lips from the puppet master’s ass.
9. His writing reminds me of a Larry the Cable Guy routine but funnier. Git ‘er done!!!!!!!
8. Names with an “x” appeal to my prurient side. Is Max a right-wing porno star?
7. I admire anyone who can type and kiss ass at the same time.
6. I read a NASA study that said if a monkey typed on a typewriter long enough, he would eventually type out a resume and get hired by Civitas.
5. Max is merely trying to reinforce the old adage, “You can’t believe everything you read.”
4. Max is merely trying to reinforce the old adage, “You can believe everything Art tells him to write.”
3. Max is merely trying to reinforce the old adage, “It is perfectly fine for the puppet master to have his hand up the puppet’s ass but not yours.” BlueNC encourages men to have regular prostate exams - but by a “qualified professional.” Early detection is the key to successful treatment.
2. Max wrote something about “boiling people alive.” That is somewhat scary and Halloween ain’t even here yet. Do the Campbell students know what they are getting into up there in Raleigh? I don’t think the Campbell preachers even allow them to go to tanning beds. Was it Civitas who dunked those witches up North?
And the number one reason I enjoy reading Max’s stuff:
1. It was a simple mistake. When Max applied to Civitas he thought he was joining the Civitans. He just loves selling those Claxton Fruitcakes. Now rather than sell fruitcakes he writes fruitcake stories.
When Max was interviewed for the job he was asked, “Grasshopper, if a fruitcake has no fruit, is it yet not still a fruitcake?”
Max replied, “It is whatever the hell you say it is, bossman.”
Civitas responded, “You’re hired ‘o true and noble servant.”
** A little known story I heard on Max. When he was born his parents just could not think of a name for their precious little boy. The nurse finally said, “Leave the name blank but at least sign the birth certificate.”

How do we pay for universal health Care? Single payer?

There was a guy in my high school
I think he was a year ahead of me . . . which would have made him class of 1967.
He doesn't look old enough in his photo.

Not the same guy.
His bio website. He writes books too. And his blog. He's delightful.

You gotta love Max......
Top ten reasons to read Max’s stuff:

** A little known story I heard on Max. When he was born his parents just could not think of a name for their precious little boy. The nurse finally said, “Leave the name blank but at least sign the birth certificate.”
So Mommy signed as “Ma” and Daddy signed as “X.”
The legend was born.
