BlueNC Women on Wednesdays - Open Thread 4/4

I'm in! I'm in! Sheesh, this morning has been tough without my BlueNC fix.

We do have some posts lined up for your viewing pleasure today. DQ did reschedule the live-blog with Margaret Johnson for next week because of the uncertainty of site accessibility, but the interview and video are going up today.

Thanks for hanging in with us while we work out the kinks.

Anyone heard any juicy rumors lately? cough cough, nudge nudge

No Rumors - but

This from today's N&O

Doesn't Congressman Etheridge have some research project going on with NC State and the hog farms down east?
I could have sworn I read that somewhere...

Two birds with one whack - clean up lagoons and make fuel. Win/win!

Hi ya

I still keep gettin' bumped out, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

The only rumor I have is that Sponge Bob Orr is REALLY getting tired of people thinking he's a Pope Puppet. Unfortunately, he's still stuck between that rock and that hard place. He needs Pope's money to run for office make a living, but as we all know, Pope's money comes with lotsa strings attached.

I still think Orr should take my advice and get himself a professor job somewhere and let Smith and Graham slug it out for the chance to lose in the general election.

Attention BlueNC veterans

In thinking ahead to April 19, which we have declared BlueNC Veterans Day, I want to get the juices flowing about possibilities. This diary at Kos makes me think we might want to swing for the fence. Could we create an equivalent group here in NC?

Has anything like this been pursued by NCDP? If now, how can we help them get it going?

As the friendliest state to the military, surely North Carolina should have a Democratic Veterans organization to help support our military!

Who would our ringleaders be? Marshalle Adame? Grier Martin?

I think there is a group

I've been meaning to tell you. I met a woman at the Kissell event who lives in Fayetteville. She plans to register and is interested in April 19. She had a wonderful letter to the editor printed in the Fayetteville Observer criticizing Robin Hayes.

I'm pretty sure there is some kind of group, but I could have it confused with something else. She will know. I'll email her and get back to you.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

i think

there is a group like that, but i dont think they are anything more than a bumper sticker.

Honestly....

I think YOU should be the ring-leader. You are a fundraising machine, you have contacts in NCDP, Blogs, military, business community. You have the military credentials (ring-knocker ; )). AND, you have a background in marketing and production.

How about a commercial? Think of all the vets that are here on BlueNC, they could be your actors.

listen to Robert

also, I need a job. So, listen to Robert, and then hire me.

That was my line!

Actually, I guess Thomas Brock would be a logical person to be hired in this position. So, A, you already have your marching orders, get to it.

Heh.

Happy to be a ring-knocker, as you say, but ringleader? Not my strong suit.

Pshaw, A

Most leaders, just like most heroes are just in the right place at the right time and do what needs to be done. I think that describes you perfectly. You may not consider yourself a leader, but look at all your followers!

No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.

Progressive Discussions

You're so sweet. I'll follow you anywhere!

Veteran for BlueNC

Hey I know a veteran of the Gulf War who wants to be involved. I will send him this post of yours and invite him to get ready for April 19.

I believe that NCDP was working on a BlueVeterans group of some sort Too.

TurnNCBlue

Great.

Invite him over and let him get the hang of things. On the 19th we'll be having some lively discussions about veterans issues, NC military families, progressive troops, and more.

Thanks!

Not local, but a rumor none-the-less....

Had lunch with a friend of mine who works as a grass-roots organizer for a group focused on wage and labor issues. Her colleague in NH got to meet w/ Barack Obama this week.

According to my friend, Obama gave a very troubling response when questioned about "Fast Track" trade authority. To quote my friend who was quoting her colleague who was quoting Obama, the Senator said

"I would not vote to renew fast track authority in its present form."

As you can imagine, my friend and her colleague are quite dismayed at the concept of any form of "Executive Privilege" that allows the President to circumvent Congress in creating and executing trade agreements, so the whole idea of 'not-in-its-present-form' doesn't play well.

I guess what we need to figure out is whether this is some sort of tip-off that the Dems are looking at another version of Fast Track or if this was some type of politico-speak which may mean nothing more than Obama hadn't done enough homework on the subject to give a direct answer to the question.

Either way, I'm inclined to agree with my friend....It doesn't play well.

Larry Kissell is MY Congressman

Obama

I have seen little to suggest Obama is against "Free" Trade. Now granted, Edwards has a spotty record on this from his time in the Senate, but his hiring of Bonior is a pretty good indication of how his presidency would go. For Obama, and most Dems, I think they would only vote against Fast Track because Bush is in the WH. Ill bet many of them still believe in "Free" Trade.

The simple fact is that fighting for Fair Trade is going to require a lot more than electing a president with the right views.

Hayes Ho!

The N&O is reporting that Robin Hayes finally has something to say about the OLF. Not surprisingly, what he has to say is perfectly ridiculous.

Rep. Robin Hayes sent a letter to the U.S. Navy today to express concern about its proposal to build a military landing field on 30,000 acres of eco-sensitive land in Washington and Beaufort counties.

"I could support the existing site if the issues surrounding it can be resolved in a satisfactory manner," Hayes wrote. But if no suitable solution can be found, I strongly urge the Navy to look at alternative Outlying Landing Field sites in North Carolina, where there would be less potential aviation safety issues and severe impact on wildlife."

Oooooo. Don't you just love it when a Congressmen gets all strong and clear!

NOT.

The truth is, Hayes has no idea what he's talking about. This is just more of his typical triangulating bull-oney. The issues surrounding the OLF site can NOT be resolved in a satisfactory manner. If he'd spend five minutes actually looking at the facts on the ground, Robin Hayes would know that.

Thankfully, this will be Mr. Hayes' last term. Guess he doesn't care any more about North Carolina than Liddy Dole does.

There are not

enough curse words in the world to express my disgust right now.

ask Jerry Meek about BLUE VETS organizations

I will ask Jerry Meek if the state Democratic Party has an organization, committee or group of Vets.
Heard about it being formed.

Health Care For All

Anyone interested in getting involved in a two hours over ten week effort to Establish Health Care for All in NC?

IT takes folks to write emails to their state legislators to let them know their constituents think that health care should be for all north carolinians. That small businesses can not keep on paying the insurance rates...

join up.

TurnNCBlue

oooo...

that sounds doable for me. Linky link?
