Hey, miss yall. I've got a new job up here in DC fighting for our Appalachian mountains and working to stop mountaintop removal, and I am lovin it. Saw this report (.pdf)yesterday from Public Policy Polling, and was amazed at how well the work yall are doing is paying off!
Dems lead NC in the 08 presidential elections!
The Democrats have a surprising lead in a Presidential generic ballot. As of today, 43% of North Carolina likely voters want the next President to be a Democrat, while 41% want the President to be a Republican. North Carolina has not voted for a Democratic Presidential candidate since 1976. The intensity of feeling is slightly higher on the Democratic side as well. Sixty-four percent of those who said they want the next president to be a Democrat said that having a Democratic president is “extremely important” to them. Fifty-six percent who want a Republican president have similar extreme feelings.
HOLY COW! Imagine the coattails is a Democrat Presidential candidate takes the state! We even have a great chance to take out Elizabeth Dole! Oh wait...WE ALREADY DO.
Senator Elizabeth Dole’s approval rating stands at 43%, while 31% disapprove. This is up from 36% approval last month. This month we tested Congressman Bob Etheridge against Senator Dole. Right now Dole holds a 45% to 30% lead over Congressman Etheridge...
...Etheridge does lead Dole in the one area of the state in which he is
well-known and is the base for his congressional district, the Triangle. In the 919 area code Etheridge leads 42% to 41%.
Just wait till the poll Brad Miller. :)
Last, but not least...UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE is favored by a majority of North Carolinians
Fifty-one percent say they would prefer “a universal health insurance program, where everyone is covered under a program like Medicare that is run by the government and financed by taxpayers.”...
...North Carolina voters are not happy with the current health care system in our country. Sixty-eight percent are dissatisfied with the cost of health care, while only 25% are satisfied.
Keep up the great work BlueNC!

Good to hear from you!
Thanks for bringing along some good news . . . and best of luck with your new gig. Sound like you're doing god's work. Thank you.
Thanks Anglico!
I definitely miss this communnity and my Democratic family in Watauga County.
Heres what I get to do now though...
In 2002, the Bush Administration and Army Corps finalized a rule that made it OK to dump toxic mining waste of mountaintop removal coal-mining sites into/onto our rivers and streams.
I work on the "Clean Water Protection Act," which would reverse that rule, and stop a lot of large MTR sites from being able to preform these "valleyfills."
Currently, Brad Miller is the only NC co-sponsor. So if the issue of mountaintop removal ever comes up with any elected officials, let them know there is a bill sponsored by Frank Pallone and Chris Shays that would help stop a lot of it.
I wondered where you had gotten to
So happy to see you out and about and keep working hard to save our beautiful mountains.
Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Vote Democratic! The ass you save may be your own.
Aint it funny...
Saving them is the only thing that could get me to leave them.
miss you guys and thanks for the well-wishings. it looks like you've been plenty busy yourselves. :)
Good luck with Larry next cycle. I know you guys are gonna blow Hayes out of the water this time. I saw him at a committee hearing the other day and gagged.

JW
So....if my next headline were........
"Robin Hayes gags young staffer"
It would be almost, kinda, sorta partially true? :)

There is a lot of action getting ready to take place this session, and this poll is just the thing we needed.
Thanks!

good luck Robert!
Let's get Brad Miller on the ticket for Senator!
This Greensboro boy will be all over that campaign! How sweet would it be to send Senator Miller to Washington and ex-Senator Dole back to Kansas? ;-)
John Edwards to Republicans: I'm in ur base, takin' ur votez!
North Carolina. Turning the South Blue!
Thanks for the heads up
On the poll.
I have a much longer analysis of the poll results ready to go up on DailyKos and here once I have more than 10 minutes to post it. I refuse to post and run on something like that.

Etheridge is a good start
Etheridge is my Congressman, and he's probably a good measure of feelings about Dems overall. He's not well known in the state (although he was state school superintendent) to the "average" voter. While I think he'd be a good pick to run, I certainly think he's a good measure of where we are.
Hey jwr
Excellent to hear from you again. Great to hear you're doing good work in DC now!
Good numbers -- thanks for posting them here for us. As twain said, Etheridge is a good gauge for the state as a whole. Now if we can just talk that good candidate into running for Senate...
Speaking of running ... Bill Glass, the NC-09 congressional candidate wrote a diary at dKos this Tuesday. Did y'all see it? Was it cross posted here and I just missed it? Let's send him a note and invite him to visit and post with us.
"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."
