After the wife and I returned from our jaunt to the park (the thunder beasts LOVE the park), she laid down for a nap and I turned on the tube (no, not the intertubes, the teevee). Same ol' boring shit, 5000 channels, nothing but drivel. I left it on the station Mrs. V left was watching as she drifted off (ABC Family Channel, bleechk!). One of the commercials that came on during my viewing time was one for the Pregnancy Line. It was intriguing, because I did not think that ABC (Andrews Baptist Church) Family Channel would run such a commercial. They listed their website, so I decided to put on my flowered Hawaiian shirt, Detroit Tigers baseball hat, and hop in the Ferrari (OK, so it was my Gateway laptop) and decided to check it out. I can't say I was surprised, but yet, I was. Some of the surprising science I observed:

What Are Some of the Other Risks of Abortion?
Abortion may increase the risk of Breast Cancer
Medical experts are still researching and debating the linkage between abortion and breast cancer. However, a 1994 study in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute found: "Among women who had been pregnant at least once, the risk of breast cancer in those who had experienced an induced abortion was 50% higher than among other women."

Here are other important facts:

Carrying a pregnancy to full term gives protection against breast cancer that does not occur if the pregnancy is aborted.
Abortion causes a sudden drop in estrogen levels that may make breast cells more susceptible to cancer.
Most studies conducted so far show a significant link between abortion and breast cancer.

(emphasis mine)

I wonder if that research was peer-reviewed or pew reviewed?

But wait! There's more where that came from:

Abortion May Effect Risk Levels in Future Pregnancies
Scarring or other injury during an abortion may prevent or place at risk future wanted pregnancies. The risk of miscarriage is greater for women who abort their first pregnancy.

Abortion May Increase the Risk of Emotional Problems
Some women experience strong negative emotions after abortion. Sometimes this occurs within days and sometimes it happens after many years. This psychological response is known as Post-Abortion Stress (PAS). Several factors that increase the risk of Post-Abortion Stress include: the woman's age, the abortion circumstances, the stage of pregnancy at which the abortion occurs, and the woman's religious beliefs.

(emphasis mine)

I have always believed in a woman's right to choose (it's not my place, or anyone else) to tell another person what they can or cannot do in their private life. The religicans want to have the ability to tell the rest of society we need to live by their rules, yet if anyone some much as dares to infringe on what they perceive to be hallowed ground, they are being persecuted for their personal religious beliefs (I was born and raised Southern Baptist by the way).

And Mrs. V wonders why I have trouble with religion.
