Republicans got busy in Mecklenburg

Mecklenburg County Republicans have been busy. Every local, state and federal office has a Republican candidate listed on the ballot. Democrats just didn't bother.

Some of these Republicans don't stand a snowball's chance on a warm day of winning in November, but that hasn't stopped them from showing up. On the other hand, Democrats....meh.

There are 31 partisan elected positions for voters to fill in November. Democrats aren't even trying for six of them. There are 38 Democrats and 51 Republicans vying for these 31 seats.

Obviously, the Republicans smell victory and if tradition holds true, they may have a chance of taking seats they might otherwise lose. I'm sure some of them think they will benefit from being the party out of power going into midterm elections. Others were simply drunk on tea and had stopped the caffeine induced quivering of their hands long enough to fill out the forms and write a check on filing day. Regardless of their inspiration, they have chosen to show up and to this I say, "Good job and cheers."

Democrats on the other hand.....meh.

Comments 2010 debut post and I spend it ragging on

Mecklenburg County Democrats. Who'da thunkit? you all and will try to step back by tonight.

oh...and please...don't go with the whole Dems-didn't-want-to-waste-money-on-a-race-they-couldn't-win excuse. (We Dems love to waste money...haven't you heard?)

Vote Democratic! The ass you save may be your own.

Don't apologize, Betsy

You're right to be upset. And it's not just the County/District at fault for not running a candidate. The State Party should be actively pursuing potential candidates in those races, too.

Hey you!

So glad to see you out and about.

Looks to me like the Democratic Party is pretty much rudderless, though they do have a nice new website.

Good to see you

Wake has been keeping me busy.

Some Progressive Principles

Can we not start having the following progressive principles:

Every voter deserves the opportunity to cast a vote for a progressive Democrat in a primary.

Every voter deserves the opportunity to cast a vote for a Democrat in the general election.

Non-contested seats are killing this country. Take South Dakota Democrats and "John Thune", for example. Or North Dakota Democrats replacing Byron Dorgan. I wish we could take the North Carolina Democratic primary candidates for the US Senate and have one run in South Dakota as a consolation prize and another in North Dakota. Yeah, we'd have to spring for some parkas for them, but it would be a great service to Democrats.

Did I say that in our US Senate race we have and embarrassment of riches in good candidates.

50 states, 210 media market, 435 Congressional Districts, 3080 counties, 192,480 precincts

We can't vote for Democrats if they don't file for office

I know how much time it takes and I know it isn't always fun to run a race you are fairly certain you will lose...but voters need that contrast. I know I was a bit harsh...actually..I was kinda mild for me...but it is impressive to see the excitement on the other side. I can only imagine how it feels for them.

Vote Democratic! The ass you save may be your own.
