Conservative Haters Kill Family Pet of Democratic Campaign Manager

The family pet cat of a campaign manager for a Democratic Congressional candidate was killed, had the word "liberal" painted on its side and was left on the front porch for the campaign manager's four children to find.

Jacob Burris, who has served as Aden’s campaign manager since late October, arrived home with his family Sunday evening, and his four children discovered the gruesome scene as they exited the family vehicle to enter their home.

The family pet, an adult, mixed-breed Siamese cat, had one side of its head bashed in to the point the cat’s eyeball was barely hanging from its socket. The perpetrators scrawled “liberal” across the cat’s body and left it on the doorstep of Burris’ house.

Did Charlotte City Councillor Andy Dulin violate state disclosure laws?

Republican Charlotte City Councilman Andy Dulin used his position on the DNC Host Committee to promote two Republican candidates for Charlotte City Council in a robo call.  The state campaign disclosure laws are very clear in regards to robo calls.

Comparison of 8th District GOP field

Rebublicans are lining up to challenge Congressman Larry Kissell in the newly redrawn 8th Congressional District.  Despite his conservative leanings, the gerrymandered districts drawn by the Republican legislature will make it more difficult for Kissell to win reelection.

The following is a cursory glance at the candidates who have declared their intentions  to run in North Carolina's 8th District.  Stu Rothenberg has said it would take a miracle for Kissell to win.  So folks....which one do you want in Washington in his place?

Herman Cain's chief of staff smokes & blows in online ad

The Cain campaign has a new ad out that more than likely is meant to target white, working class voters.  Cain's chief of staff, Mark Block is at his working stiff best in this close up video which shows him smoking a lit cigarette and exhaling the smoke.  It is as if he's saying, "I'm white and I'm running the show.  Don't mind the black guy smiling at the end of this ad."

Of course, all working class voters are not racists...or smokers.  I live in a very rural, fairly white county in the south and I'm a realist.

Charlotte Mayoral Candidate Scott Stone Fails Competency Test

A charity fund run by Scott Stone, Republican candidate for mayor in Charlotte, is receiving some unwanted attention for the low percentage of fundraising dollars passing through to the supported cause. According to available tax returns, North Carolina Heroes Fund (NCHF) has raised $168,807.73 and distributed $39,210.37 to veterans in need. This means only 23% of funds raised has passed through to help veterans, not the 30% stated by the Charlotte Observer. In contrast, $41,542.48 has gone to one professional fundraiser in 2009 and well over $40,000 in unitemized expenses have been incurred. This leaves Scott Stone's financial competence wide open for criticism.

New Yorker takes note of Art Pope's takeover of North Carolina

According to Taegan Goddard at Political Wire, this is a must read.

Of course, James has been saying all of this for the past six years. The New Yorker dedicated ten pages in the online edition to the piece. I can't wait to see it in print.

Even some North Carolinians associated with Jesse Helms think that Pope has gone too far. Jim Goodmon, the president and C.E.O. of Capitol Broadcasting Company, which owns the CBS and Fox television affiliates in Raleigh, says, “I was a Republican, but I’m embarrassed to be one in North Carolina because of Art Pope.”

NC House Republican staffer misuses state owned computer

h/t Laura Leslie

Tuesday, Republican Representative Efton Sager's legislative assistant used a state owned computer and a state owned email account to forward an email calling President Obama a pompous ass. Apparently she intended to send it to Republicans only, which would still be a misuse of state property and taxpayer money. Unfortunately for Shirley Winstead, she sent it to both Republicans and Democrats.

Ms. Winstead has received what many of us will feel is an inappropriate email on a state owned email address and then forwarded it on. She is wasting time and tax payer dollars instead of doing her job. It makes me curious just how many emails of this nature are forwarded through our state owned email addresses. ( I wonder how much an FOIA request would cost? )
