A Health Care Plan That Would Work Perfectly (and soooo easy!)

A man suffered a serious heart attack and had open heart bypass surgery. He woke from the surgery to find himself in the care of nuns at a Catholic Hospital .

As he was recovering, a nun asked him questions regarding how he was going to pay for his treatment. She asked if he had health insurance. He replied, in a raspy voice, "No health insurance."

The nun asked if he had money in the bank. He replied, "No money in the bank."

The nun asked, "Do you have a relative who could help you?" He said, "I only have a spinster sister who is a nun."

"The nun became agitated and announced loudly, "Nuns are not spinsters! Nuns are married to God."

The patient replied, "Send the bill to my brother-in-law."

I have been asked why I post on this site because I am obviously NOT a progressive. And, that my views are blatantly conservative.

Well, I don't agree with that analysis as the title of this post indicates. I guess that is why I post here in a nutshell. More details? read on.

As to why do I post here? You are correct. I am not by any means a wide eyed rabid Progressive. Thank God I left that part of me back in the 70’s after doing so damned much damage. It was my group of what would have been called progressives who demanded the states close and disband the asylums for the mentally ill. We sited the horrid treatment they received and cried that the mentally ill are not criminals and should not be locked up. Okay, said the states. It is cheaper just to send them a check every month than to keep them in a building getting three meals a day and a relatively safe place to sleep.

Democrats Do Themselves Proud on Ethics Bill

Prepost: I have been asked why I am posting national news all the time when this is primarily a site for NC political news. My answer: what is done on the national level soon affects North Carolina so it is best to keep informed about both. And, this site already has a lot of superb writers of NC news.BB)
I honestly didn't think the Senators would back the provisions put in the House version of the Ethics Bill, but they did and even went a bit further. The Democrats came thru this time because they want to be seen as the "clean" party and get the White House back and a larger margin of Dems in Congress in 2008. But Hey, who cares why they did it, just that tougher ethicls legislation is passed. Read on:

Senior Drug Program Fiasco Being Perpetuated By Democrats

The Republicans who have been chided as the party of big business were out to show their concern and assure all that they too can and do “feel the pain” of our needy citizens, so they passed a huge Medicare Senior Drug Bill and promoted it as saving seniors big bucks on drugs. It is in fact one big scam perpetuated on the tax paying public. The bill as enacted specifically stated that the government could not bargain with drug companies for the best prices on drugs. In effect the bill proclaimed that Medicare would pay what ever the drug companies chose to charge for their products, period. And to alleviate the fears of the nay saying public the drug companies before the bill was enacted promised not to raise prices. That promise went out the window the day after the bill was signed by President Bush.

Hell in Paradise and the Wrong Road Out

An article in Tuesday’s N&R opinion page reminded me of a topic I have been mauling over for some time now: drugs in America and what we have been doing wrong since President Nixon declared his War On Drugs in 1971. Yes, you youngsters out there, it certainly has been that long since our tax dollars been going to fighting the drug war all over the world and the battles just keep getting bigger and bigger and bigger, with no let up in sight. The article compared the deaths in the Iraqi War that the public seems so up in arms about with the huge numbers of deaths from drugs in our nation during the same time period and wonders just where our priorities are. Well, it is not priorities, it’s memory. The War on Drugs is old news to the point that when drugs are mentioned most people just shake their head, frown and go on to the next topic unless their family or someone they know is affected. Well people, don’t look now, but EVERYONE is affected.

Bush More Careful with Accuracy in Speech

It seems President Bush was careful to be as accurate as possible when speaking to the American people in this lastest speech on the War in Iraq. He remains up beat but admits to some hard truths.

President Bush tells us repeatedly that the Iraqi people wish to live together in peace in a unified country and yet we have Sunni and Shiite groups trying to do as much damage to each other as possible on a daily basis. Polls however show that 89% of Iraqis want a strong unified government. Why all the mayhem and madness, who knows at this point. Perhaps it is juggling to see just what group will be in control of that unified government. They don’t yet understand that unity requires that the groups work together for the good of the country. (Now why does that phase sound as if it could be applied to a country that has enjoyed a democratic government for over two hundred years? Someone should point out to our divided Congress that they are acting just like the Sunni and Shiites just with words rather than guns and bombs.)

Supreme Court Puts Dent in Patent Laws to Consumers Benefit

The Supreme Court makes another ruling for the public and against big business. Now understand I have nothing against business because commerce makes the world go round as they say. What I am very much against are laws that allow some businesses to take unfair advantage of the patent laws and excessive unfair profit.

A company can have a patent on a product and just by making an insignificant change either to the product or even the packaging of that product apply for and get another patent on the product. This would allow them to keep their monopoly on the product for another period of time, thereby controlling the price and supply and stifling competition. The companies owning the patent can also sell licenses to other companies to produce the product and pay royalties to the owning company. This is especially the case with the drug companies. I have made this explanation very brief and rather simplistic since most of us are not lawyers and can only understand the gist of the rulings and not the legal ins and outs.

California May Offer Test Case for National Health Care Program

The New York Times
Los Angeles, California January 8, 2006

California Plan for Health Care Would Cover All
“Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Monday proposed extending health care coverage to all of California’s 36 million residents as part of a sweeping package of changes to the state’s huge, troubled health care system.”

Several of my readers and I debated the Medicare and Medicaid federal health care programs. I maintain that the plans, especially Medicare, were poorly planned when begun in 1965 as part of Pres. Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society War on Poverty. Several of my readers pointed out the programs of other countries which they felt were successful. And I agreed that they were apparently accepted in their respective countries but would not be acceptable to Americans.

History in a nutshell, or more asccurately, History OF FOOLS in a nutshell

If You haven't yet read the following perhaps you should just to see how silly labels and labeling can get. BB
History in a nutshell.....

Humans originally existed as members of small bands of nomadic hunters/gatherers.

They lived on deer in the mountains during the summer and would go to the coast and live on fish and lobster in the winter.

The two most important events in all of history were the invention of beer and the invention of the wheel.

The wheel was invented to get man to the beer.

These were the foundation of modern civilization and together were the catalyst for the splitting of humanity into two distinct subgroups:

1. Conservatives
2. Liberals

Once beer was discovered, it required grain and that was the beginning of agriculture.

Thank you

Thank you all for stopping by and sharing your ideas and beliefs. I truly enjoyed this thread and hope we all got a fresh view of the problems our society has to face. It surprised me to hear most of you sounding like I did 45 years ago and every year since then. Except as the years went by I got more dishearted and disillusioned by the greed of most people. Much hope for a better world being lead by better people as you all seem to be. Sincerely, Maxine aka Brenda Bee
